Canadian police invite the public to ‘Walk a Mile’
Whilst being filmed with his ankles shaking, ready to roll over at any second, in bright red heels, this Canadian cop, brutally stripped of any sense of dignity, promotes an event called “Walk a Mile” in Bowmanville this Saturday, June 13, to raise awareness for domestic violence… or something.

Via Durham Post (emphasis added):
Bethesda House is organizing a ‘Walk a Mile’ charity event that will be held in Bowmanville in the Municipality of Clarington…
Bethesda House is a multi-service agency that provides shelter to women, youth, and children living with gender-based violence and abuse in Durham Region. It also provides community outreach services as well in partnership with the community of Durham.
‘Walk a Mile’ is a fundraising event in support of women and children impacted by gender-based violence. Whether you walk in honour of someone you love, in support of survivors, or simply because you believe in change, your participation makes a real difference, said a statement.
Funds raised will help provide safe shelter, essential services, trauma-informed care, and critical support programs for women and children on their journey to healing.

Obviously, combating domestic violence and raising money for victims is a noble cause.
However, in addition to an apparent humiliation ritual for the police, isn’t parading around in ornate heels reductionist and/or regressive in terms of conforming to gender stereotypes?
What about non-binaries that love to wear heels and don’t identify with either gender?
What is it about brightly colored heels that scream “femininity”?
For that matter, what even is a woman in the first place?

For some clarification on who might qualify as a battered woman in Ontario, I queried ChatGPT: “Are transgender women allowed to be housed at domestic violence shelters in Ontario?”
(As I’ve learned through experience, you have to use the term “transgender women” rather than the preferred term of “tranny,” or else ChatGPT will refuse to service your inquiry on account of “hate speech” or whatever.)
Citing Ontario Human Rights Commission guidelines, it responded:
Yes. In Ontario, transgender women are generally allowed to be housed in women's domestic violence shelters, and Ontario human rights policy states that a trans person should have access to the shelter that matches their lived gender identity. Shelters generally cannot exclude someone simply because they are transgender.
The legal basis is the Ontario Human Rights Code, which protects people from discrimination based on gender identity and gender expression in services and housing…
The Commission's policy on shelters further explains that although women's shelters may lawfully operate as women-only services, they should treat transgender women as women for purposes of access. Shelters also have duties to accommodate safety and privacy needs of all residents where possible.

In other words, women experiencing domestic violence are required to be housed with men, endowed with penises and afflicted by wildly disproportionate rates of mental illness relative to the general population, in order to avoid offending said men’s delicate feelings.
