Adventures in The Patriarchy™: Anti-ICE Karens Gone Wild! Part XXI

Chronicling the ongoing intersectional struggle to liberate women — inclusively defined as the legacy kind and the transgenders — from The Patriarchy™, one microaggression at a time.

God is dead

"How’s this for a motivational phrase: our resistance will be talked about for generations," the teary-eyed Karen deadpans into the camera.

Unlike other (possibly the majority of the subculture) anti-ICE Karens who have turned their so-called activism into a massive social media content farming and virtue signaling operation out of pure cynicism and opportunism, this one appears, just based on the twelve-second video alone — an admittedly small sample to extrapolate from — to be earnest in her belief that running ICE out of town with rape whistles to protect illegal immigrant scammers is some Joan de Arc historical feat that schoolchildren will learn about in a hundred years.

Which is actually much sadder than the ones LARPing as girlboss action heroes purely for clicks. Those anti-ICE Karens in it purely for self-aggrandizement and self-enrichment deserve nothing but ridicule and scorn, because they’re truly malevolent and irredeemable.

The sincere ones, like this girl, however, I can’t bring myself to feel anything for except pity.

What you have here is the intersection of delusions of grandeur and a desperate attempt to scrape meaning out of a world increasingly devoid of any meaning — the latter affliction one Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche infamously predicted 200 years ago when he declared God dead, not so much a religious proclamation, as it has been popularly interpreted, but an existential one.

Via The Daily Bell (my article, just as relevant today as it was in the throes of the 2020 Summer of Love when I wrote it):

Most drive-by philosophers are familiar with Nietzsche’s now-infamous proclamation that “God is Dead” in the collective hearts and minds of Western civilization.

Fewer understand the full breadth of this bitter diagnosis. Even fewer see what it really portends: the death of the West and, ultimately, the dawn of a New Dark Age.

The flippant interpretation of Nietzsche’s remark — widely made by campaigning atheists and proponents of secular government in state-run media – is that he was merely making a surface-level observation on the decline of organized religion, specifically of the waning Lutheran establishment that dominated the spiritual lives of Germans in the mid-1800s.

In fact, Nietzsche predicted an ugly truth that we have only begun to experience as reality: we have lost our sense of meaning. There is no tie that binds us any longer. Our story as a Western people with a rich tapestry of meaning sourced through cultural texts has reached its final act.

We are stagnant and atomized, like a leaf cut from a tree, left to rot with no psychosocial nourishment to sustain us. In time, we will lose our sanity as well as our sense of purpose.

Don’t take such dire analysis on faith:  you can feel the decaying energy in the streets. The unraveling has only just begun.

An academic contemporary of Nietzsche, Emile Durkheim, glimpsed the future demise of the West as well. He submitted his own diagnosis of the bleak zeitgeist of the time in his study of suicide.

Specifically, Durkheim introduced the heavily studied psychosocial concept of anomie – succinctly put, the large-scale social breakdown that a lack of perceived purpose or meaning triggers. Durkheim connected the dots between what he called “rulelessness,” nihilism, unsalvageable distrust of formerly dominant social institutions, and, ultimately, suicide – both of the individual and of society.

I’ve stared down the barrel of the nihilistic gun many times myself, and still do from time to time. I wouldn’t wish that level of hopelessness on my worst enemy.

Anti-ICE Karen: ‘I got nothing to lose’

More on the theme of fruitless attempts at filling the chasmic inner void with Social Justice™ activism, this one explains that any attempt to reason with her will be met with indifference, because she’s “willing to burn her whole [expletive] life to the ground” for the cause.

If you want to argue with me, I'll argue. But I gotta let you know something. I'm willing to burn my whole f***ing life to the ground. And I don't care. I got nothing to lose. I don't wanna be here. And I don't believe in heaven. So f**k with somebody else.

People with nothing to lose and who are very upset with having nothing to lose pose an existential threat to anyone they encounter, including themselves.

Ultimately, of course, everyone is responsible for finding his or her own way through life, but it’s worth remembering that these people are products of their environment — a reflection of the spiritual abyss that has engulfed Western civilization from Melbourne to Munich to Montreal.
