Chronicling the creeping demise of Diversity™, Equity™, and Inclusion™, otherwise known as institutionalized racism.

HHS dumps ‘Minority Biomedical Research Support program’

Via Federal Register (emphasis added):

The MBRS [Minority Biomedical Research Support] program prioritizes racial classifications in awarding federal funding. The stated goal of the program is to “increase the numbers of ethnic minority faculty, students, and investigators engaged in biomedical research and to broaden the opportunities for participants in biomedical research of ethnic minority faculty, students, and investigators” [1and relies on “minority student enrollment” to determine applicant eligibility.[2

The regulation and the MBRS program generally are contrary to the Supreme Court's decision in Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. President and Fellows of Harvard College,[3which held that race-based affirmative action in college admissions violates the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The goal of promoting diversity, even if commendable, cannot survive review under equal protection principles.[4

The principles identified in Students for Fair Admissions also apply to the federal government [5and require repeal of the MBRS program. Therefore, HHS is repealing the regulation codified at 42 CFR 52c and terminating the MBRS program.

“Experts say” — and never mind that these are the people who were getting the government cash in the first place — that not handing out grants based on race is racist.

Via STAT News (emphasis added):

Experts say that the termination of the program, which provided everything from funding for undergraduates’ lab salaries to mentorship from senior investigators, could close off scientific careers for individuals who wouldn’t otherwise have access to research opportunities.

“Cutting of these programs means that an entire generation of students will end up being lost to science,” Rochelle Newman, a psychologist at the University of Maryland who received a grant from the program, told STAT. “Those are students who, as scientists, would be creating the discoveries that will enhance health and our way of life in the future.”…

The termination of the program will additionally exacerbate existing inequalities in the distribution of NIH funds, Stanford said. Individuals who are from underrepresented backgrounds are less likely to be funded by the agency, a reality partly driven by research topics. That issue will only grow with cancellations of initiatives like the Minority Biomedical Research Support Program.

DNC kicks Summer Meeting off with land acknowledgment, proving the party has learned nothing from humiliating 2024 defeat

Yet again doubling down on the DEI insanity that largely cost them the election last year, the DNC welcomed a morbidly obese alleged Native American to deliver a “land acknowledgment,” a Social Justice™ ritual to soothe the guilty consciences of liberal white women.

The alleged Indian begins with a bunch of gibberish that is presumably some long-forgotten language of the natives before launching into the English portion of her speech:

Let's talk about the land for a second. The DNC acknowledges and honors the Dakota Oyate – the Dakota people – who are the original stewards of the lands and waters of Minneapolis. The Dakota cared for the lands, lakes and the Wakpa Tanka – the ‘Great River,’ the Mississippi River – for thousands of years before colonization. This land was not claimed, or traded – it's a part of a history of broken treaties and promises. And, in many ways, we still live in a system built to suppress Indigenous peoples' cultural and spiritual history.

“We still live in a system built to suppress Indigenous peoples' cultural and spiritual history,” according to this lady, while one of the two major political parties in the country cedes special time to her at a major summit to (ostensibly) promote said culture, an exhibition for which she probably got paid handsomely.

Make it make sense.

Ultras-based Chinese ad signifies changing American consumer habits?

No one ever accused Asians of being overly subtle.

Presenting, perhaps the best, if most on-the-nose commercial dialogue in history:

Girl A: “Hi, I’ma racist.”

Girl B: “Hi, I’ma homophobic.”

Girl C: “I’ma fatphobic-uh.”

Boss man: “I’m Stefan. I have the biggest charging cable factory in China.”

(For whatever reason — and I know this because I spent countless hours in my former life as an English teacher trying in vain to correct it — East Asians have an unsalvageable compulsion to add vowels either to the end or beginning of words where they don’t belong. For instance, in Vietnam, “Trump” becomes “Trump-oo.” One can hardly blame them; the languages of the Orient and Europe are so divergent that it’s amazing any native speaker of one could learn to speak the other intelligibly at all.)

This innovative marketing strategy is probably not going to do wonders for this company’s Blackrock ESG score or whatever, but it’s probably banking on it moving some product.

I’m tempted to stock up on substandard Chinese charging cables myself, and I have absolutely no need for any whatsoever.
