Here are some egregious examples of information misuse or insincerity in the political scene.
2023
Former President Joe Biden was absent from press conferences he was expected to attend. Frustrated reporters accused then-Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre of deliberately shielding him from the media, according to a since-deleted 19FortyFive article. Jean-Pierre responded that Biden had answered questions before live audiences in the past, but sidestepped questions about press conferences by saying she had no information on them.
Later in April 2023, Biden did end up attending an event with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, and a journalist was there to ask questions. Biden was briefed on the possible questions the reporter would ask.
To the general public’s chagrin, he was reading from a cheat card containing scripted foreign policy questions. The scope of the card went far beyond simply using basic notes for a speech. It even had the reporter's photo.
In a separate 2022 incident, Biden was also provided with cheat cards instructing how to behave at White House events and where to go.
Jean-Pierre was aware that Biden stumbled over his words, and so she tried to hide it by limiting his involvement in press conferences or by giving him a cheat card to show him what to say to reporters.
Pre-approved questions are a way of hiding someone from the media because they are based on false information, are not always questions reporters would truly ask, and limit the person’s range of thought to narrow lies.
To citizens' relief and Biden's comeuppance, current President Donald Trump took the 2024 election by storm, as Trump showed up prepared.
2024
Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris presented herself through word salad, “I love Venn diagrams,” and the notoriously heavily edited CBS 60 Minutes interview.
2025
New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has presented herself as someone who grew up in a seedy Bronx neighborhood. Her Bronx illusion was functionally destroyed after someone revealed Ocasio-Cortez's yearbook picture from the very well-off Yorktown Heights school she attended.
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) has also cultivated the image of a child growing up in “the hood” and overcoming that origin story, but she attended an affluent private school. Tuition was $35,000 a year.
To satisfy her dream of feeling superior to others, Rep. Crockett openly taunted Gov. Greg Abbott with “Hot Wheels” and “hot [expletive deleted] mess” in a 2025 public appearance.
Both candidates wanted to maintain an impression that they arrived in politics to achieve a higher purpose.
Present day
Former Vice Presidential candidate and current Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz was caught in the crossfire of a massive fraud scandal totaling $9 billion.
Walz was heavily associated with weak policies that allowed infamous "autism services organizations," Quality Learing Center-style daycares, and Feeding Our Future scams to thrive. Many of these operations are now out of business, as ringleaders had their childcare licenses revoked or faced federal charges.
