Huck Leads the Pack

January 30th, 2014 - 3:55 pm

HUCKSLUCK

Oh, GOP — just when I thought we were about to kiss and make up:

n the wake of his “Uncle Sugar” comments at the Republican National Committee Winter Meeting, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has taken the lead in a hypothetical 2016 Republican primary, according to a new poll.

Huckabee gained 3 points in the past month to top the GOP field at 16 percent, according to a left-leaning Public Policy Polling survey released Wednesday.

I’m not sure how much faith I’d put in a PPP poll of GOP contenders, not to mention that we’re still a couple years away from getting serious. That said, I hope Huck’s rise has more to do with Christie’s troubles than it does for any extra Republican love for Huckabee.

I'll confess that I don't like Huckabee as a candidate, for a most illogical reason.

I can't imagine voting for a man who looks like Fred Flintstone.

I think conservatives need to reject the pernicious notion that the President leads the country: he leads one of three co-equal branches of the federal government, and we voters need to pay attention to the Congress as being equally important.

Is Cruz (for instance) a great senator? Let's assume so. It doesn't follow that he ought to be President: we need great senators just as much.

In other words, everybody worries too much about who should be President, as though it's the only game in town. Indeed, we've made it that, and that's not how it's supposed to be.

Completely true! Not only do we need a good president, but we also need enough good congressmen (don't forget the House) to keep the fiscal insanity at bay as much as possible.

Swell, a more Republican Mike Bloomberg.

I don't trust ANY liberal media outlet that tries to tell us who is, or should be, our leading candidate. Look at the last campaign, they serially set up then shot down each candidate. It was entirely at their direction, not connected in any way to the opinion of the electorate.

God help me, but I've come to like him. The clock has struck thirteen a few too many times for my weak brain.

As opposed to His Electable Inevitableness, Mitt Romney (who fronts another poll's pack of idiots -- I mean, contenders).

There is a Republican out there who polls at over 70%.
She'd be a real Mama Grizzly as a candidate.
