Laws for Thine But Not for Mine

You knew it was coming but now it’s official:

Under the current system, the government covers most of the cost of health-care premiums for members and their staffers. But an amendment to the Affordable Care Act — proposed by Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley — threw those subsidies into question saying that members and staff must enter into the exchanges or be covered by insurance “created” by law.

The potential for staff losing the subsidies led to concerns of “brain drain” from the Hill if staffers left as a result of the increased costs.

A brain drain from Washington is like an ethics drain from… Washington.

What I want to know is, where’s my waiver? Better yet, what happened to the Equal Protection Clause? Surely, no equal protection exists when the executive branch is free to wheel and deal to see who must obey the law and who gets special carveouts, waivers, or exemptions.

Doesn’t anybody have the standing to sue?

AND ANOTHER THING: That waiver can be, well, waived at any time. Obama now has Boehner by the short & curlies, curtesy of Boehner dropped trou and proudly saying, “Here ya go!”
