"The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wastoids, dweebies, dickheads - they all adore ObamaCare."

Jonathan Cohn on why young people will go for ObamaCare:

You’re a 26-year-old single dude, holding down a pair of part-time jobs tending bar and painting houses, and making about $24,000 a year. Thanks to Obamacare, you can finally get decent health insurance, just like people with full-time jobs at large companies do. But when you go online to check out your options, you see that even the cheapest “bronze” plan, which has high deductibles and co-payments, will cost you about $100 a month. Obamacare’s penalty for carrying no insurance next year is less than one-tenth of that. Do you buy the insurance anyway?

First of all, why is the single dude working two part-time jobs instead of one full-time job?

Oh, right — ObamaCare.

But having been a 26-year-old dude once upon a time, I can tell you this dude’s main concerns are money, booze, and sex, and probably in that order. Is he thinking about health insurance? Probably not, if he’s the kind of dude painting houses part-time. What he’s thinking is, how much of that $100 a month is it going to cost him to bring home that cute chick at the end of the bar who keeps ordering pitchers of Coors Light.

His health? Most 26-year-olds are in good health, and think of the future in terms of Friday night — not the deductible on his bronze plan and how this nice new law lets him get health insurance just like his older brother. You know, the one who was lucky enough to find full-time work before ObamaCare outlawed it.

Cohn has more, but his piece doesn’t do much more than provide evidence that the dirtiest word in the English language is “policy.” Foreign or domestic, it’s always a swamp of unintended consequences.
