Privations? Those will hit me once I get furloughed next month. 20% pay cut, a wife & 6 kids - yes, that will really hurt. It'll be a big hit to the Dayton, Ohio region where I live. Washington keeps playing around on the margins of the budget, and in the meantime my family pays the price.

Also, in my region most Federal employees are members of the DoD acquisition workforce. It's a pretty reliable Republican base, but conservative media doesn't seem to realize that, as we're consistently the targets of "lazy bureaucrat" namecalling. The salary scale has been frozen for 3 years, and now with this pay cut - it's getting old. You're not going to balance the budget on the backs of the federal workforce.
