Your Gun Control Concern Troll Of the Day
Surprise! No Labels “Republican” Mark McKinnon thinks the GOP should take up the cause of gun control, because “guns are killing the Republican party.” Here is his list of suggestions, in no particular order other than they make very little sense:
• Reinstatement of an expired ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition
• Requirement of universal background checks for firearm buyers
• Track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database
• Strengthen mental health checks
• Stiffen penalties for carrying guns near schools or giving them to minors
• Make gun trafficking a felony
• The president should make a recess appointment to fill the vacancy at the top of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF)
• The Justice Department should step up prosecution of criminals who try to buy guns (In 2009, the latest year fully recorded, only 77 out of 71,000 people who had been convicted of gun crimes and tried to buy guns were prosecuted.)
• The Justice Department should crack down on rogue gun dealers
• Requiring law-enforcement notification of customer purchases of more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition
• Create a database that would allow the ATF to track all gun sales.
• Outlaw armor-piercing bullets
I'm very curious to know what "high capacity ammunition" is. Is that like a .38 round with extra lead in it somewhere? The rest is the usual hodgepodge of… nothing, really. There is still no such thing as an "assault rifle," large ammo purchases have never once been a clue to an impending mass murder, and WTF is he doing suggesting the President make a recess appointment while the Senate is in session? Does McKinnon even know what that means? I wouldn't argue against strengthening mental health checks — but how does he intend to do it?
Anyway, I have a few labels for McKinnon, but none of them are repeatable on a family blog.

High-capacity ammunition? Well, a 3-in 12 ga 00 buckshot load has 12 to15 pellets and 2-3/4- in shell has only 8 or 9.
And gun trafficking is a felony.
As a no label Democrat, may I advise the party to take up the cause of jumping off a cliff?
One million lemmings cannot be wrong, you know.
“At Aperture Science, we fire the whole bullet! That’s 66% more bullet per bullet!”
Stephen, I think the term you’re looking for is “Assault Weapon”, which is so vague as to be meaningless.
“Assault Rifle” is a clearly defined term used by militaries the world over. True modern assault rifles are not available for civilian use in the United States and never have been except for a very few who hold special federal licenses.
If by “guns are killing the Republican party” one means “idiots like this are killing the Republican party”, then yes. Yes, they are.
I now believe interstellar space travel should be a priority above all. Not for the betterment of mankind– just so we can blow these people out of an airlock.
If this is the same McKinnon from the Texas McKinnon family that owned KIII-TV in Corpus Christi, then he’s really a Democrat.
Republicans are killing the Republican paery. There will be a small service at the grave site. Some blame the NDAA. The DC AG says John McCain will not be prosecuted.
Whenever I’m driving and feeling too mellow, I listen to NPR to pass the time and get myself good and angry. Some weeks ago I tuned in at the middle of an interview with McKinnon. He was making his various policy points before I knew who he was, and I thought he was simply another liberal offering disingenuous advice to the Republicans: advice not to help them win, since he doesn’t want them to, but to make people him disapprove of them a little less.
Then I learned that he’s supposedly a Republican. One of those true friends telling them uncomfortable truths that would help them if only they would listen. (A bit like Chuck Hagel toward Israel – but I digress.)
Mark who?
