More like this, Mitt:
On Wednesday, Mr. Romney will make a pitch to the nation’s premier civil rights group, testing President Obama’s overwhelming support among black voters by trying to pry away defectors with his pro-jobs message at a time of 14.4 percent unemployment among African-Americans.
Mr. Obama is passing up the chance to address the group, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and sending Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. instead.
I doubt Romney will be able to move the needle much on Obama’s support from black Americans. But it’s good to try, and helps trump the race card Team Obama plays over and over. Besides, with black unemployment almost double that for whites, there’s a great case to be made against racial solidarity.
Personally, I think the race card lost its sting when Obama played it on Bill Clinton four years ago. I mean, Bill Clinton. But that won’t stop him from trying.
