An Untypically Shoddy Move by Real Clear Politics
The Drudge link doesn’t have the flashing police light, but the text is in blaring red:
First Lady Admits: ‘Fortunately, We Have Help From The Media’…
Oh my goodness. There it is at long last — the stunning admission that the media is in cahoots with the Democrats. And the call is coming from inside the White House! The link takes you to Real Clear Politics, with same red text headline screaming “Michelle Obama: ‘Fortunately, We Have Help From The Media’”
Only, not so much. Read the whole quote:
CNN reporter: “How’s the family ready for this [the election]? It’s going to be quite vicious, isn’t it? How do you prepare for that?”
First Lady Michelle Obama: “You know, it’s … we’re ready, you know. Our children, you know, could care less about what we’re doing. We work hard to do that. Fortunately, we have help from the media. I have to say this: I’m very grateful for the support and kindness that we’ve gotten. People have respected their privacy and in that way, I think, you know, no matter what people may feel about my husband’s policies or what have you, they care about children and that’s been good to see.”
Imagine that. Reporters respecting the privacy of a couple of young girls. Sorry, folks — but that’s the kind of media we do want. We don’t always get it, but those girls deserve to have lives as close to normal as can be managed.
And I’m frankly ashamed by the good folks at Real Clear Politics, who usually shy away from that kind of sensationalism.

I’m sorry, Stephen, but I must disagree with you. The presstitutes are not respecting the privacy of young children; they are demonstrating their awe and servility toward the empress-consort and her brood. Let Sarah Palin declare that she will seek the Republican nomination for President, and watch the journolistas swarm over her kids with flensing knives.
In other words–”Fake but accurate.”
Palin’s kids are targets and have been destroyed by the very same media and we must now assume that they’re doing a good?
Man, just because they did one thing right (but, make no mistake, only for their messiah,) we let them get a pass? Even Satan quoted scripture and believes in God, but let’s never make the fatal mistake of considering him good – nor the leftist media.
Ditto, Akatsukami & Don L. The media clearly have an idea about what decent behavior entails – they just don’t think it applies to Republican women or children.
And if this was an ethical policy of the media, it would be laudatory. However, while I guess it speaks well of Fox as they’ve often been targeted by the parents, it highlights the debased nature of the rest of the MSM. The bulk of the MSM are quite discrete in what they report about their favored candidate all the while speaking vilely about a disfavored person’s infant and daughters.
We want a media that doesn’t attack the children of a candidate or power broker as a way to attack the parent. What we have is a media that only respects the privacy of the children of parents they prefer and promote.
Most of the comments here are missing my central point — that Drudge and RCP sold Mrs. Obama’s quote as some kind of blanket statement about their media treatment. Of course, it was nothing of the kind.
I expect that kind of thing out of Drudge, but not the good folks at RCP.
Agreed that Mrs. Obama’s statement is far more narrow than advertised and reflects something we want to support in the media (leaving the kids out of it), but the commenters are not entirely wrong.
The media’s track record amply supports the charge that they are doing the right thing not because it’s the right thing, but because the Obamas are Democrats and supporting Democrats is just what they do.
Stephen, I totally agree and I was one of the first to leave a comment to that effect at RCP. A misleading headline unworthy of RCP.
As others have noted, there is plenty of evidence outside Michelle’s remark that the press helps Obama. If conservative journalists want to catch up Michelle, there should be plenty of opportunity during the formal campaign. (If so, I will restart the Michelle Obama Suicide Watch http://michelleobamasuicidewatch.blogspot.com/.)
I now have studied the quote several times. I don’t think that it is an entirely unfair interpretation to suggest that the media gives support in one direction, especially when the evidence is so overwhelming that they do not give support in this regard to family members of non-leftists.
I don’t recall seeing a single, solitary article about the Obama children that was negative in the slightest.
So where DID I see vicious attacks on family members of those running for office in the past couple of years.
Oh, yeah. ONLY in one direction.
Kids, spouses, significant others should be given a wide margin of privacy. That generally is crossed most often and most viciously by the lying lapdogs of leftism.
First cousins to the nattering nabobs of negativity, I presume.
The author is right.
Drudge should be above selective quotes. Just more fodder….and rightly so…..for the left.
I agree with Stephen, but then I remember the rabid dogs that emminated from Michelle’s husband, regarding the media, as pertains to anyone else’s families.
In sum: more narrow than originally reported, and demonstrative of the hypocrisy of the Mushroom Media and the left.
I followed the exact same links and came to the same conclusion. That was totally bush league. Sadly this is the only right of center blog that I’ve seen call it out.
A pox on all their houses. And i would take her a lot more seriously if she would stop saying “You know”
You know . . .you’re kind of . . . you know . . . right. You know?
