First Blood
April 27th, 2011 - 7:59 am
Trump is claiming credit for the release of Obama’s “long form” birth certificate — and he’s right. Three years of birtherism, and nada. A few weeks of Trump, and results.
This is not an endorsement of Trump, but give the man credit. He is the first to draw blood on the President in the lead-up to 2012 — and he’s shown the way for others.

My thirst to know is not quenched. First of all the eligibility issue is much more than where he was born.
Why would Obama spend $2 million to keep this document hidden? Why?
The $2 million thing has been well and truly debunked.
The birth cert is released. Please drop the foolishness.
Long form? Why does it say “Certificate of Live Birth” then, which was the document always available?
Look, I always believed Dear Liar was an American, simply because his mom was an American. But why release this now, with a slight of hand. Did he actually feel threatened by Trump? Seriously? Trump?
The birther nonsense has been going on for so long, why respond now? It feels more like redirection to keep our attention off other things. Such as the first Fed presser in 97 years? Or the new, impossible to fill out passport application (I can’t remember every place I’ve lived)?
It certainly tells us what league Obama is in, doesn’t it?
Maybe if he works really hard for the next fifteen years he might even be brought up to the minors.
Why now? Theory has it that it has now reached the point where it hurts Obama more than it hurts the doubters.
This isn’t Trump drawing blood, this is Trump wasting time. This issue didn’t win us the election last time, so it won’t this time when it’s gone from being fresh to being the realm of paranoids who think that the Truthers are cool guys to imitate.
I disagree. The birther issue is stupid, and birthers trend from deluded to racist to insane, but Trump forced Obama to take he didn’t want to take.
That the action was of no consequence doesn’t matter. Initiative was lost by one side and — perhaps — gained by the other.
I hope you’re right, but I have a feeling it was just a way for him to get this issue back in the news, because he expects it to help him with voters who don’t already loathe him.
That might have been, if he’d been able to hold off on releasing it until October 2012.
This is the “define” phase of the campaign; Obama is being defined and not by people who support him. Just as Bill Clinton will forever be remembered for a DNA sample on a blue dress, Obama will be remembered for simply being not up to the job — and the timing of this release bolsters that image.
Trump’s had it back in the news for weeks. If Obama really thought it was helping him he didn’t need to do anything.
In 1968 I went to Viet Nam and put my ass on the line “To support and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
I am damned tired of being called stupid because I think the Founding Fathers wanted no foreign ties attached to the Presidency.
The only Federal office that requires a “Natural Born Citizen” is POTUS.
There’s a reason for that.
We’ve lost the media. We’ve lost many of the courts. (Justice Thomas even admitted the Supremes are “evading” the N.B.C. issue.)
Blogs are the only way we have left of controlling the issue.
So I’m stupid?
Trump ain’t stupid either. This is first blood. Now we move on to college records X3, Visa and Passport records, and the dozens of other things sealed up when this ineligible fool was allowed to take office.
Be careful who you call foolish, Stephen. I have a feeling there are a lot more of us “foolish” Veterans out here than you may imagine, and we are pissed with the fact we cannot get answers to our questions by normal means.
