The Following Also Applies to Subaru-Driving Hippies

Dear Elderly Toyota Camry Owners Everywhere,
Whoever told you it was safe to merge onto a 75 MPH interstate highway at 40 MPH was clearly mistaken, OK?
Love,

They’re worried about braking, my darling. Yours were probably working fine, or we wouldn’t have heard about it.
If you’re braking on the onramp, you really ought to have your license revoked.
Yes, and the examiner that passed them should be fired!
But such suicidal behaviour is SOP in Dallas. Even where two FREEWAYS come together. =:O No, not EVERY driver, but a significant portion of them. Beware!
Please don’t ask me why – such insanity is too much for my brain to grasp.
Oddly, they do NOT do so in Houston. I dunno why.
Hey, I always merged at or above the posted highway speed in my Outback, so stuff it!
Ok, well I ain’t a hippy either.
This could be extended to at least half the drivers in the state of Massachusetts – no matter what type of car they drive. Except they enter the highway at 25-30mph on a regular basis… that is when they don’t decided to stop instead of merge. When they leave the highway and the sign says “Yield” that’s when they don’t stop.
It’s scary driving in the Northeast.
What always gets me, is those “Right Lane Trolls” that are ON the highway, they are doing like 40 mph puttering along going just slow enough to block you getting on but not fast enough to get out of your way.
Then there is the Dead Stop, on the ramp… or in the middle of the lane for that matter, I always wonder if they are watching out for “Ghosts…” making sure to check their back seat so they can proceed with the utmost caution.
I suspect they get their licenses out of Cracker Jack boxes… along with their super-hero decoder rings.
Ramming Speed..!
This is another of those areas where we’re losing our culture. Do they even provide drivers’ ed in school anymore? In the DC area, so many people have no idea what the left lane is for, whether yeild means stop, slow or even braking in onramps, or the whole driving with hi-beams thing. Used to be you’d only have to school the younger drivers if any; now it’s widespread.
In most states, you can’t get a drivers license under age 21, WITHOUT Drivers Ed.
Not that they teach anything beyond the most basic skills. It certainly isn’t like the Bondurant Schools, or they way they teach it in Europe.
Hey, stop sending us (SE Phoenix Valley) all your old geezers for six months of the year!
Now, hitting the end of the ramp at 80-90 is the RIGHT way to do it, especially with your horn going full blast, scaring the beejezus out of the old coots.
I get rid of a lot of stress by yelling at the drivers in front of me as I get on an Interstate.
It’s especially pathetic when I do it while driving a school bus… If you’re in the way of a school bus, you are really WAY too slow.
Gee, I know the acceleration lane at exit 161 isn’t very long, but….
Hippies still exist??????
As a Camry owner (SE 3.5L) owner pushing 60, I resent that remark, so get outta the way, whippersnapper.
Speed doesn’t kill. Speed differentials kill.
And Get The Hell Off The Cell Phone! It is even more annoying for me as I am on a motorcycle and people already miss the big bright pair of headlights coming at them and pull out with the added impairment of chatting on the phone. Even folks driving while talking hands free are more often than not as bad as a drunk. It is a far better ratio, but not much safer for me and others on two wheels.
I try to make up for the damage these people cause by accelerating to 90 MPH on the on-ramp and then slowing down as I merge into traffic. It gives my ridiculously overpowered car a nice little workout, it helps combat global cooling, and it scares the crap out of hippies in Subarus.
Evil Red has hit upon the explanation! Those hippies aren’t stupid, they’re saving energy*. Gotta go green somehow.
*…On second thought; yes, they are stupid.
Going green? Actually, when I come up behind them really fast it looks more like they’re going brown…
