Slowly! Slowly! It’s Too Nice a Job to Rush
Howard Kurtz has the Question of the Day: How aggressive will Darrell Issa be? Not even Issa knows for sure:
No wonder the Democrats are scratching their heads. “One day he’s going to hold 280 hearings a year,” says Jenny Rosenberg, a spokeswoman for outgoing Democratic Chairman Edolphus Towns. “The next day he says that’s the wrong impression of him. Where is he?”
Issa needs to walk a fine line between exposing the corrupt machinations and endless wasteful spending of the last two years, and going all spittle-at-the-mouth Ken Starr on the Administration. Or, perhaps more accurately, giving the Complicit Media the opportunity to portray him as a spittle-at-the-mouth Ken Starr.
Give the Complicit Media just one chance, and they’ll poison the well. And not just Issa’s Oversight and Government Reform Committee, but the entire GOP majority in the House.

Was Ken Starr all “spittle in the mouth”? I remember him as a regular guy with a tough job who lost the media battle because his opponent was much better at it. Maybe I’m wrong, it was a long time ago, but I remember Drew Carey describing him as “Joe Six Pack” and that kind of stuck with me.
I’d like Issa to be real vague. Just point out the obvious–that Barack Obama comes from a place where politics and criminality mix freely and the American people have a right to be sure he did not bring this culture of corruption to Washington with him. Issa has no predetermined outcomes, but will follow the evidence where it leads.
Maybe the handlers can tweak that, but I think it covers a lot of bases without giving much ammo to the opposition.
That’s a fine headline for events that will be occurring in the District of Columbia.
