Chicago promises a surveillance camera on every street corner:
“We’re going to grow the system until we eventually cover one end of the city to the other,” he said.
I bet most Chicagoans would settle for a camera in every political office instead.

awesome.
Maybe USA or FX could come up with a series about corrupt Chicago politics & politicians. Of course it would have to be classified as reality television.
In the end, it’s hard to decide which is worse: that someone’s always watching, or that the money has been spent and there still isn’t anyone watching. We’re not much safer in either instance.
I completely understand the stated reasons for these things. But it’s the unstated reasons that bug me too much to think happy thoughts as I see these things.
Listening in to terrorist conversations from overseas…..bad.
Creating an indiscriminate 24/7 video surveillance blanket over the entire city….yawn.
How many people would they have to employ to watch every street corner in the city?
Surveillance cameras? they’re all over the place in England.A lot of the time they’re not on and when they are on they’re looking into peoples windows or watching people at night having sex or urinating and then selling copies of the footage to various people.Quite a few ‘operators’ have been prosecuted for this offence over the past few years. They’re just an excuse for the cops to be even lazier or for ‘government officials’ to spy on people. Get rid of them! We in England are increasingl exposed to these and other encroachments on our civil liberties so watch out Chicago!
