It’s a problem for those of us that use solid modeling software such as Unigraphics et al. UG tests have shown that operating speed under Vista is about 1/50 of speed under XP. MY last client, a large automotive supplier, found it was even slower.
I bought an expensive notebook computer running Vista a few months ago because I thought that the problems with it were overstated. Boy, was I wrong!! I can’t get a low end CAD package like TurboCAD to run decently on it, yet it runs fine on my 3 year old 800MHz notebook. Office runs at a glacial pace, and forget about any games such as Baldurs Gate. Now I use it as a painting surface for miniatures…
Looks like I will have to see my local Dell dealer and get the XP “bonus”.

Don, question: how much RAM does your new laptop have in it?
