The Audacity of Repeating Jimmy Carter’s Greatest Hits
May 2nd, 2008 - 7:19 am
Barack Obama wants to slap a big giant tax on oil companies.
What the hell, it’s not like they’re going to use those big profits to drill for oil in this country — we won’t allow it.

A tax on the inflation caused by mismanagement of the economy? I know it’s nice to blame the oil companies for making money when we’re paying through the nose, but stick to the big picture, Senator. As an Obama supporter, I have to say that he’s got the third-worst pandering proposal among the three candidates trying to score political points over the price of gas.
Yeah, the lifting of the gas tax over the summer is silly.
I still haven’t heard people say, “Look, you decrease the price of gas and people will drive more. People driving more brings upward price pressure. This is not a long term solution.”
@NLS
I’ve heard many, many people say that over the last few weeks.
Unfortunately, they’re all boring economists, so who wants to listen to them. The oil company tax might be dumb, but I have to give Obama props for saying that repealing the gas tax was stupid.
Corporations don’t pay taxes. They’re passed on to consumers in the price of goods and services.
Tax the Oil Corporations and watch everybody’s 401K’s plummet. So, we can pay though the nose at the pump while still bending over and taking it like a prison inmate in our retirement. Yeah. That’s a plan. NOT. Besides that, if you tax the corporations while getting rid of the gas tax, you’ve effectively erased any relief that would be had. Larry is right. The cost would be passed on to the consumer.
How about we axe the gas tax permanently. It was Al Gore’s baby anyway. And it’s superfluous. How about we drill for our own oil and refine it and sell it. There you go, That’s a plan. In fact, if you let every state drill for their own oil, refine their own oil and sell their own oil and overflow oil to other states and other nations, we could see gas back down to 50 cents a gallon, or so.
Alternative fuels aren’t the way to go either. My grocery bill has tripled since the introduction of e-85 and other nonsense. Oil IS the fuel of America. It works in everything, and it’s abundant and plentiful and could be cheap once again. Let’s be honest, you libs out there. These gas prices are exactly what environmentalists want. These are making you giddy. And the prospect of hitting capitalistic endeavours like the Oil corporations in the Finance office makes you ecstatic.
Kissing OPEC goodbye and getting rid of Al Gore’s stupidity gets an A in my book!
