Deadweight
Consider me not impressed with the amateurish efforts at BlogsforFredThompson.com. One of their editors, “Brkcmo,” lifted and posted my entire drunkblog — word for word, reader comments and all. Brkcmo didn’t claim my work as his own, but he sure demonstrated bucketsful of ignorance in how blogging works.
If Thompson wants to be President, it’s about damn time he stuck it all the way in and announced his candidacy, and hired maybe just one real blogger with maybe some tiny bit of savvy.
I’ve emailed the “editor” to complain, but haven’t gotten a reply yet. Whatever happens, you can color me unimpressed with Thompson’s non-campaign.

Fred Thompson.
Hollywood guy.
Phony Campaign.
What a shock.
Let’s just say that I’ll wait to see how they respond to this–but if they don’t respond well, it’s going to be open season on ‘em.
A little harsh, don’t ya think?? He has corrected it now and it was intended to compliment you on how funny it was.
Not everyone knows the “rules” of blogging right away. Give him a break. Geeze.
I agree with you that he needs to finally announce officially. But in their defense, BlogsForFredThompson is not affiliated with his campaign… and he has hired a real blogger to help with his campaign (who happens to be a friend of mine).
The post has been removed at BFFT. It was not intended to offend you. In fact, I thought you did a great job with the “Liveblogging” and said so. Still learning the blogging game. Please accept my apology. I’ll not post further from your site. Have a great day!
Ehh.
Dems are concerned about Thompson. Not sure why. Everyone else should be concerned. What the hell are people thinking, supporting a congressman for President? President ‘s main job is acting as a check on congress.
Without the cushion of being VP, it think it’s a very bad idea [sit down Al Gore].
Thompson reminds too much of Kwame Kilpatrick. He knows the talk, but I wouldn’t expect anything else.
Still learning the blogging game.
Get in touch with Sean. Stephen will be pleased to learn that when at home, he would drink with Nick and I, and you will be pleased to learn that he has been blogging for an entire decade.
Not to beat the drum about Thompson, and you are correct on the blog criticism, but I am SO in favor of his decision to hold out announcing.
We, none of us, have any frikkin’ business holding the campaign for a November 2008 in FEBRUARY (remember?) of 2007. It’s not only preposterous, but I submit that you and I…. and Mr. Thompson et al… have a right NOT to be forced to run this race now. It’s so lame, and it is entirely a creation of the media and political classes who get off on it overall.
Afer an even numbered election, we are entitled to one year of GOVERNENCE, that we can debate about and judge the next year, not a literally endless, endless, endless campaign, with all the accompanying BS.
I don’t know if any of this motivates Mr. Thompson, but I know that it should, and that when (if) he does declare in September, by November 2007 (one full year in advance still), the lateness of his declaration will matter not one iota.
In a word, can we give it all a freekin’ rest?
I have read (somewhere I can’t find the link to right now) one plausible explanation for Thompson’s reluctance to announce: as soon as he does, every TV episode and movie he’s ever been in will be verboten to show on TV for campaign finance reasons.
What will that do to A) his income, and B) the income of other actors in those pieces who otherwise would get residuals?
It’s an interesting question.
“I’ll not post further from your site.”
That would be a shame and would help neither the Senator nor this blog once he announces. But I can understand since Mr. Green did overreact in his post and didn’t exactly give a great example of good blogging. Bucketsful of ignorance about how blogging works, Mr. Green? The OP is stereotypical internet arrogance, talking down, pontificating in a resigned “I’m just disgusted with this” tone and throwing out at least five insults toward the Thompson campaign, two of them saying exactly the same thing, none of them particularly justified. You e-mailed the editor to complain and then posted about it before getting a reply – how long did you wait? Rushes to judgment are another hallmark of internet discourse.
Color me unimpressed with your post Mr. Green. Last I checked no one had sat you on a pedestal to hand out proclamations on blogging etiquette. Although if someone had then I’d start to think maybe the problem is systemic.
If Fred Thompson “stuck it all the way in,” he’d kill you. I’m just sayin’.
Well, gee, Chaos, I bet Stephen is all red-faced and embarassed, now that you’ve “schooled” him.
…Your last name wouldn’t be Foer, would it? Just kidding!
As for Doug up there at the top; if you’re dumb enough to think Fred is a “Hollywood Guy,” there’s no use talking to you.
Hint: Watergate.
for what my 2c is worth (about 0.02 of a dollar so I hear):
I think that posting an entire post of another blogger, comments and all, citing the source clearly, is about the least offensive blogging faux pas one could make. Its really just a simple flattery. Not even in the imitation-as-flattery sense, because they are just saying “this is so good that rather than provide a link, I will copy it all in and try to force my readers to read it.”
I really think you were way too harsh.
The post was taken down before I got a chance to see it, but if liberty’s version of events is accurate–that Stephen was credited and that the site posted the drunkblog without permission instead of the usual excerpt and link without permission–then I would consider the violation minor.
Unless Stephen gave brckmo at least a full day to respond and was ignored, this could have and should have been handled quietly.
On the other hand, if Stephen did give brckmo a fair chance to reply and was ignored–then the gloves come off.
Hey, next youtube style debate, here’s the question I want asked:
Fred
dear mr. green, i apologize dearly for invading this blog, though i found no actual way to get in touch with you. so here i am, hoping to ask you just a simple question about some pictures you have posted on Amazon.com. anyway, my e-mail is egner08@gmail.com, and i hope to hear from you soon
