Every so often, I pick one of my vices and go without for a while (roughly a season) just to prove to myself that I can.
Surprisingly enough, the year without Coca-cola was doable, but I have yet to make it more than 4 days without deliberately cracking my knuckles.

The trick is to only buy booze on Friday, and only enough for the weekend.
I managed to last a good month with that strategy.

When last I gave up vodka (but not wine), I went a full month before having a martini.
Just wait until the time comes and you have to give it up completely.
That’s gonna hurt.
