A (Partisan) Act of God?
You might have already read this on InstaPundit:
Seismic activity at Mount St. Helens has changed significantly during the past 24 hours and the changes make us believe that there is an increased likelihood of a hazardous event, which warrants release of this Notice of Volcanic Unrest. The swarm of very small, shallow earthquakes (less than Magnitude 1) that began on the morning of 23 September peaked about mid-day on 24 September and slowly declined through yesterday morning. However, since then the character of the swarm has changed to include more than ten larger earthquakes (Magnitude 2-2.8), the most in a 24-hr period since the eruption of October 1986. In addition, some of the earthquakes are of a type that suggests the involvement of pressurized fluids (water and steam) or perhaps magma. The events are still occurring at shallow depths (less than one mile) below the lava dome that formed in the crater between 1980 and 1986. The cause and outcome of the earthquake swarm are uncertain at this time.
What Glenn didn’t mention, however, is that the sudden threat of earthquakes or a volcanic eruption comes just as John Kerry is gaining some traction against George Bush. A convenient distraction, no?
I question the timing.
UPDATE: On the other hand, maybe God is a Democrat.

God’s a Republican, haven’t you heard?
So, now we add a swarm of earthquakes to a swarm of hurricanes. I guess swarm of locusts is passe.
What else could come in swarms?
…well, an act of god *would* explain the rampant idiocy on the left. Heaven knows I don’t have a better explaination.
Yes, but Kerry’s traction was for going downhill!
I’m shocked that Stephen beat jp to the punch…

Sorry for the double…got a wierd “could not rebuild” error.
Still.
Hippies. Swarms of hippies.
Timing is interesting…. hmm. Are W and Rummy playing with the big toy? Are the lights flickering in Gakona, AK? You know that Angels don’t play this HAARP!

I wouldn’t worry about any immediate threat of distruction.
I checked, and Mother Nature hasn’t filed a Notice of Intent or a Plan of Operation, both of which are required for “significant surface disturbance”. In that neck of the woods, it is taking the Forest Circus at least a year to process a POO to move less than 10 yards of material. I’m guessing it will take Forest Gump ten years to approve the POO for an eruption. After the Environmental Impact Assessment is complete.

Aha, another natural disaster for which Bush can sweep in with aid, engendering good will and votes in Nov. That Karl Rove sure is an evil genius. Now if I can only get him to give me the winning lottery numbers. . .
There is nothing Mount St. Helens could put out any more vile and porous than the noxious gases and lightweight pumice currently eminating from John Flotsam Kerry.
Kerry gaining ground? Must have been over the weekend when no one was listening to what he was saying. Just wait till the screaming, angry soundbites start to flow back into the news cycle…Kerry will begin plumetting again.
And Mount St. Helens getting ready to erupt? It’s got to be Karl Rove. The only question is if he’s using the doomsday machine or satanic weather control rituals…
How do you think REAGAN even got in the door? I still have jars of ASH from the last REPUBLICAN blowout! …and don’t forget the IRANIAN hostage situation… EVERYTHING is just TOOOOO convenient this election year!!!
Those schneaks!
Looks like Teresa Heinz-Kerry might be getting her October Surprise….
What else could come in swarms?
In Florida, that would be Hurricanes. A ditty heard yesterday:
Frances to the left of me, Ivan to the right,
Here I am!
Stuck in the middle with Jeanne…
Hold on, Mt. St. Helens, until the brother units get their elks kilt!
Signing off from ground zero for Ivan (Pensacola)…
Well, I don’t know about that, but after four hurricanes, there is a school of thought that maybe Somebody wants those votes counted straight this time!
Finally someone’s acknowledging the vast VAST right wing conspiracy.
ASV has a note from Karl Rove about Mt. St. Helen’s.
Didn’t you guys get the super-secret memo? Or were you wearing your tinfoil hats to Karl’s mind rays couldn’t pass on the plan telpathically?
Wow, i was just at Mt. St. Helens five weeks ago.
These may be famous last words, but I’d be stunned if anything actually happened with Helens. She’s just building up a little pressure…
PJ O’Rourke had a great piece proving that God is a Republican and Santa Claus is a Democrat. The short version is that God is stern, serious, demanding of personal accountability — it’s hard to get into God’s club — while Santa Claus is generous, kind, forgiving, etc.
The punchline: Although Santa Claus appears to be preferable to God, there’s no such thing as Santa Claus.
i fully belive god is a socialist, but that does not mean i am one also.
God can also walk on water, but i can’t do that.
If you overlay Jeanne to the map of Florida, you get further proof. I’ll wait….
A swarm of hippies? NOOOOOOO!!!!
BTW Bob Dylan’s autobiography is out and HE HATES HIPPIES!
Does this mapmaker work for a news network? Hurricane tracks thru Orange and Osceola counties are not correct, based on the number of times my house in Osceola has been hit. Therefore, unless this guy is a left winger not interested in facts (and that could not be -could it?) his theory falls apart in the only part of Florida most people know – Disney World.
Whenever I think of hippies, the swarm that comes to my mind is flies.
I have only one firm belief about the American political system, and that is this: God is a Republican and Santa Claus is a Democrat.
God is an elderly or, at any rate, middle aged male, a stern fellow, patriarchal rather than paternal and a great believer in rules and regulations. He holds men accountable for their actions. He has little apparent concern for the material well being of the disadvantaged. He is politically connected, socially powerful and holds the mortgage on literally everything in the world. God is difficult. God is unsentimental. It is very hard to get into God’s heavenly country club.
Santa Claus is another matter. He’s cute. He’s nonthreatening. He’s always cheerful. And he loves animals. He may know who’s been naughty and who’s been nice, but he never does anything about it. He gives everyone everything they want without the thought of quid pro quo. He works hard for charities, and he’s famously generous to the poor. Santa Claus is preferable to God in every way but one: There is no such thing as Santa Claus.

I can remember when Mt St helens went off in may of 1980 we hav,nt been in our new house for a year when it came over our TV as a SPECIAL BULITEN we even had some authentic volcanic ash from the eruption and HARRY TRUMAN(not the president)was lost becuase he would not leave his home i now live in a apartment my parenst are desceaced and it looks like it could be going again and i live with in a 50 mile radius of Mt Shasta
