Bad Day? Bad Week
Via Drudge, comes this WorldNetDaily story:
Boston residents got more than they bargained for this morning when their copy of the Globe came complete with graphic photos depicting U.S. troops gang-raping Iraqi women.
Problem is the photos are fake. They were taken from pornographic websites and disseminated by anti-American propagandists, as first reported by WND a week ago.
WND contacted the Globe to question staff about the photos.
Asked whether the photos were the same as the porn photos WND already investigated, reporter Donovan Slack said, “I have no idea. I’m surprised the editor even decided we should write about it.”
She added: “Oh my God, I’m scared to answer the phone today.”
“It’s insane,” said Slack. “Can you imagine getting this with your cup of coffee in the morning? Somehow it got through all our checks. Our publisher’s not having a very good day today.”
Neither is the US Army, which was, apparently, unjustly accused of allowing (if not encouraging) gang rape.

I wonder whether anyone will ask publicly for explanations. Or if anyone will just sue the newspaper “to protect the children” or somesuch.
Note however that World Net Daily is not always reliable, being something of a political “Elvis Fathered my Two Headed Baby” site.
Has the Boston Globe issued a front page correction and apology?
Just to be clear -
This is reprehensible either way, but for the sake of accuracy:
I had read that the fake worked-up rape pictures were of British troops, and they were caught out as fake because the uniforms were all wrong (old) and the compositing was obvious.
Is there a second set of US-themed photos going around too? Or have they erred and mis-reported the photos’ content?
CS
No, the fake picture involving a Brit that I saw was of someone in a soldier’s uniform urinating on a prisoner. No sexual content (unless you’re into that).
There were also pictures from an online porn site (iraqbabes.com, which has since gone down) depicting sex with soldiers, reported as being real pictures. Those are fake.
Now, there are apparently some pictures (unreleased) of iraqi prisoners that had been compelled to have homosexual sex with each other, apparently they were presented in a intelligence committee meeting. No details on that yet.
I’ve heard the UCMJ specifies a sentence in excess of a decade for this kind of thing- for each count. Methinks several people are going to be spending a long time making small rocks out of large rocks at Leavenworth.
Drudge has a scan of the Globe picture. WTF is a Boston City Counselor doing presenting anti-military propaganda instead of doing his job? The clown that he’s with is a frequent caller to Boston talk radio. His usual MO is that everything is about race.
And why were these pictures, even if they were real, being printed in the newspaper? Legally produced (and consensual) porn is bad for people to see, but rape is okay? And if it had been real, wouldn’t it have been victimizing the women all over again to print their pictures?
So much for the War on Porn.
