The consumer confidence numbers are quite encouraging as well.
I had exactly the same conversation with my wife a few weeks ago when the numbers were first announced. I told her they were undoubtedly going to revise it downwards, and we’d hear a little blurb about it near the end of some newscast or such. I called her up from work today, laughing about the new numbers! She still doesn’t believe they are right. She thinks it’s a snow job.

Can you imagine how pissed Chirac is? Here we’ve taken two major economic hits, the bursting dot.com bubble plus 9/11, are fighting a major war half way around the world, and we’re still kicking their economic ass like a cheap drum. Not to mention that they lost more people in a one month heatwave than we have in two years of war.
