Still Waiting
Here’s the story from India, as reported by the Taipai Times:
At least 42 people were killed and more than a hundred wounded yesterday when two bombs exploded in the heart of India’s financial capital Mumbai, police said.
It was not immediately clear who planted the bombs. One exploded near the historic Gateway of India, a crowded monument in the tourist heart of the city, while the other exploded in a congested bullion market near a Hindu temple.
“There were legs and hands lying on top and inside my taxi. I had a miraculous escape,” said taxi driver Lal Sahib Singh, whose clothes were soaked in blood. He had been driving past the bullion market when the bomb exploded.
How long, I wonder, before our punditry asks what India did to deserve this, and why they’re so hated?
Oh, right — it’s all America’s fault.

is there any reason this can’t be the standard pakistan/india/kashmir mess? they’ve been trying to off each other for decades, without it being an outsider issue.
oh, or was that your point?
Could it be the Hindu radical government stoking the fire of Muslim fundamentalists with non-issues like Ayodhya?
Or could it be the revenge for targeted killings of innocent Muslims in Gujarat, which incidentally, helped the chief minister of the state win the elections?
BTW Steve, it’s Taipei Times.
britain, bud. it’s britain’s fault on this one.
one of the few “nuances” of post-colonial theory.
Yeah, it’s great how the world blames the United States for “imperialism” when what we’re doing is cleaning up the messes caused by real live European colonialism.
I suppose it’s a good thing the United States is around to change Europe’s diapers and wipe up its drool though. They need someone to have as a role model if they ever cut out the communism and world wars and grow up.
In the meantime we just have to hope the wreckage left behind by British viceroys and bashars don’t start chucking nukes at each other.
Well, I think it had to do with a government report concerning a disputed archeological site (Hindu temple/Muslim mosque) that caused horrific violence (2000 dead in rioting) in 1992.
And let’s not fool ourselves: our pundit class couldn’t give less of a shit about this if it tried.
