Madeleine Albright thinks George Bush is overly eager for war:
Madeleine Albright, the US secretary of state under Bill Clinton, on Thursday accused some members of the Bush administration of an “irrational exuberance for this conflict” with Iraq.
Speaking before the Senate committee on foreign relations, Ms Albright said: “It is not an American trait to want war.
“And it is not a sign of sound leadership to understate the risks of war or to offer constantly shifting rationales – as this administration has – for undertaking such a venture,” Ms Albright said.
Now there

Speakig of “ethnic cleansing” – how come nobody uses that phrase to describe the long string of Palestinian suicide bombings?
this woman sickens me.
so, it’s cool to go get US soldiers killed over feeding some people in Africa, or to stop MUSLIMS from being exterminated because Europe is too wussy to do it themselves….. but a few thousand americans are killed and suddenly WE’RE the bad guys?
The Albrights of the world can’t resist poking their head up and reminding us how damn good we had it when they were in charge. She’s absolutely convinced–her use of power was just and needed; anyone else’s use of power is questionable and a sign of poor leadership. This she knows. She (and her fellow Clintonistas who so readily drip arrogance) simply do not trust anyone other than themselves…which must make being out of power exceptionally agonizing.
Perhaps they know from experience how reckless those in power can be, and it spooks the crap out of them to know other hands are now on the trigger.
As SecState, Albright had the gentle touch of Andre the Giant. Her face alone made her job more difficult…the ever-present scowl of righteousness. She was the chief practioner of talking big and doing little, unless Clinton’s poll numbers needed boosting. And her address to the people of Belgrade in Serbian, as they were being bombed nightly, certainly should win an award for its lack of understanding the audience. ‘Look, I can speak Serbian! I am smart, I am capable, I don’t just have this job because Bill Clinton wanted to be the first to appoint a woman to Foggy Bottom.’
Many formal high governmental officials return to the public scene and gently remind us of what is important…others attempt to remind us of how important they are. She falls into the latter group, and in doing so gives little credit to those who now shoulder her former responsibilities. If only they had her wisdom…ah, those Bushie rubes, etc.
Finding the most incompetent Secretary of State in the history of our republic was a serious challenge. History is repleat with some real doozies of incompetents, drunks, corrupt secretaries.
But Bill Clinton was up to the task, finding Madeleine Albright to make us forget the weasel Warren.
Doesn’t she have another North Korean dance party to go to?
Battleaxe – n. 1: a broadax formerly used as a weapon of war. 2: slang: a quarrelsome domineering woman.
Now guys, be nice. Margaret Thatcher has never been anybody’s centerfold candidate, but if she’d been eligible to run for President , I not only would have voted for her, but would have quit my job to volunteer for her campaign. Albright can’t help how she looks. She *can* do something about being an idiotarian.
Yet again we see why she’s called, in some circles, Madeleine Halfbright.
Really.
Two scenes that stick in my mind as I recall her tenure as Sec of State…1) as the Lewinski scandal broke and clinton called his cabinet together to reassure them he did not act inappropriately, she spoke (for all of the cabinet members I believe) of their unqualifed support of his denial. 2) in the fall of 2000 as the clinton administration desperately manipulted Isreal to give Arafat virtually all of his demands, Albright chases after Arafat after he storms out of a meeting with Barak in the U.S. embassey in Paris begging him to come back. If memory serves me well, she chased after him in her stocking feet and ran after his limo as it puilled away. Never were American interests so poorly, pitifully and disgustingly represented.
Wasn’t she the one who asked Colin Powell, rhetorically, “What’s the use of having the most powerful military in the world if you don’t use it?”
The Albright statement on alleged Iraqi sanction victims, was the product of a question-begging trap. That is: a questioner supplies the answer in the question, designed to get the answerer to affirm it. Question-begging is an unprofessional approach to journalism, but it is done all the time, by…
Albright has since repudiated her comment, but damage is still echoing throughout the world.
If someone ever tries question-begging with you, just say, “don’t put words in my mouth. It’s unsanitary.”
Good point…I can deplore dopey cabinet members and unsavory journalists without a hitch in my logic.
My favorite Katie Couric technique: “What do you say to people who think you’ve…”
A fair answer: “No one has ever asked me that. Do you want to ask that question, Katie?”
