White House press secretary Josh Earnest said early Monday morning that a “device” described as a small drone was found on the grounds of the White House.
Early indications are the the device did not pose any kind of threat.
Asked about media reports to that effect, Earnest said the device that was found “doesn’t pose any ongoing threat” to the Obama family. The Secret Service is reportedly investigating.
President Obama and Michelle are traveling in India while their daughters, Sasha and Malia, are home at the White House with their grandmother.
The question arose during a lengthy news conference here about diplomatic talks with the Indian government and Obama’s trip later this week to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to pay respects to the family of the late king during their mourning period.
Earnest initially said he did not know anything about the reports, but after checking his Blackberry he confirmed a device was found on White House grounds.
