The Texas Democrat Party really is a marvel of the modern world. It is a party that repeatedly reveals that it is incapable of learning anything, anytime, anywhere. If if weren’t for the moneybags of trial lawyer Steve Mostyn and the press savvy of Matt Angle, which is waning by the year, the Texas Democrats of “white primary” infamy would be in an even worse position than they currently are. They’re so pathetic that it becomes a bore to criticize them. Fish, meet barrel, meet stick of explosives, basically. It’s just too easy.
The latest evidence of all this is state Rep. Dawna Dukes. Rep. Dukes (D-Austin), in her 8th term, is an official Wendy Davis surrogate.
She spent a Saturday campaign rally in Pflugerville claiming that Texas Republicans have “taken everything away everything that matters to the people of Texas,” which doesn’t make a bit of sense in the small-government state that is the engine of America’s economic growth.
Just speaking for myself: I still have my family, my home, my church, my job, my firearms, my other possessions, my job, my voice, my right to vote, my state, and my freedom. My taxes are low, my prospects are high. Crime is down. Property values are stable. Texans aren’t losing, we’re gaining.
Texas Democrat don’t get that, not the how or the why or what role their relegation to irrelevance has played in that. The less power they have, the better Texans do, and a majority here figured that out years ago. The Texas Democrats haven’t, and based on the available evidence, won’t.
Dukes carried right on into mocking the Republican governor nominee, Attorney General Greg Abbott.
As everyone knows by now, Abbott has been disabled for years and relies on a wheelchair. That hasn’t slowed him down in the least, and it won’t slow him down on Tuesday. If Greg Abbott was a liberal Democrat — which he very much is not — there would already be a made-for-TV movie about his life. But he’s not.
For some reason, Dukes just had to point it all out anyway.
“And then we have this guy who just kind of rolls around thinking that he can get tort reform for himself, but take it away from everybody else in the state of Texas.”
And the Democrat base crowd cheers, as you can hear in the video below.
Davis’ Battleground Texas supporters have been caught on tape mocking Abbott’s disability (and condoning voter fraud) during this campaign cycle. Wendy Davis herself just got into trouble for that ad with the image of the empty wheelchair. Then she shamelessly used some disabled folks as props, which predictably backfired.
And now this from Dawna Dukes.
Capping this episode perfectly, Wendy Davis later thanked Dukes for her comments, reports Sarah Rumpf at Breitbart.
Nice party ya got there, Texas Democrats. Enjoy a few more years in deserved political exile.
