Florida Sen. Marco Rubio delivered an impassioned question/speech against Obamacare on the Senate floor today. Moments ago he delivered a quote that frames the ongoing debate between the leftwing Obama blue state model of government and the center-right conservative red state model, exemplified in states like Texas:
“You lose the American Dream, you lose the country.”
Reading from a letter from a constituent whose job and insurance are being threatened by Obamacare’s mandates, Rubio argued that Obamacare is hurting millions of Americans like her. Obamacare is forcing companies to cut work hours for millions of workers in order to comply with its new 30-hour work week. “Is Obamacare making it easier to pursue the American Dream?” he asked.
The problem is, the Democrats know know that Obamacare is hurting people. They know that it hurts the pursuit of the American Dream. That’s central to their long-term plans. Not all Democrats, but a sizable core of them, want to use Obamacare to wreck the private health insurance system and pave the way for a government-run system powered by more taxes. Sen. Harry Reid is but the latest to admit that.
“What we’ve done with Obamacare is have a step in the right direction, but we’re far from having something that’s going to work forever,” Reid said.
When then asked by panelist Steve Sebelius whether he meant ultimately the country would have to have a health care system that abandoned insurance as the means of accessing it, Reid said: “Yes, yes. Absolutely, yes.”
Some Republicans think that instead of defunding Obamacare now, they should just stand back and allow it to collapse on its own. If that strategy plays out, which may take years or decades, then before the dust even settles on the collapsed Obamacare, the Democrats would move to create a government-run system. The misery and dependence created during years of Obamacare may have rendered the American public, which opposes a government-run system now, to accept one then, just for peace of mind that they will have insurance.
Never mind that such a system will ration care and prove too expensive to sustain. Never mind that by then our health care system will be badly degraded, and our national debt will have skyrocketed and a full economic collapse may be imminent.
The Democrats want their blue state, government-run model imposed on the rest of us. They won’t let little things like honesty or economics get in their way.
