After much speculation about whether President Obama and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani would meet, perhaps photographed shaking hands together, the Islamic Republic was the one that turned down the U.S. president.

Senior administration officials told the White House pool about half an hour ago that the White House had offered to have “an encounter” on the sidelines of UN General Assembly with Obama and Rouhani, but the Iranians informed the U.S. today that it is “too complicated for Iranians to do at this point.”

“There will be no meeting,” one official said, according to the White House pool report. “It was clear that it was too complicated for them.”

They stressed that Secretary of State John Kerry would press relations with his Iranian counterpart.

Still, officials tried to downplay the snub, saying that they were publicly and privately “open to having discussions on the margins of UNGA.”

“The Iranians have an internal dynamic that they have to manage and the relationship with the United States is clearly quite different than the relationship that Iran has with other Western nations,” a senior administration official said.

Rouhani, who speaks at the UN this afternoon, engaged in other sidelines meetings with IMF chief Christine Lagarde and French President Francois Hollande.

Rouhani skipped the UN leaders’ lunch for a reason that one of his official news organs, Iran’s Press TV, got high and mighty about:

Rouhani declined to attend the luncheon because they served alcohol, and he wanted to forcefully make the point that he doesn't like alcohol.

So maybe declining to meet with Obama was to make the point that he doesn't like....What??

Bisexuals, maybe?

And here, in Israel, I was having a bad trip about how Big Satan will now become best pal with the mad republic and help them nuke Little Satan with ease. Guess some miracles can't be performed even by Da Wan.

of course they did

Obozo is now just a just a punching bag for despots and fascists to make look foolish - and since they and Putin are smarter fascists than the "most intelligent president evvvvvvver" they can make him dance like the cheap empty suit puppet he truly is

While the Iranian leadership is evil by most standards, the leadership is intelligent. They are in full 'rope-a-dope' mode now. Nuclear weapons production means are well in place. Progress is just fine, as referenced by mimi jacques on this thread. They can offer to shut down Fodor because they have installed large new numbers of centrifuges, and they have multiple paths to the bomb - both enriched uranium and plutonium. They're not quite there, but all the countermeasures of sabotage - including cyberwarfare - have not succeeded. Rouhani actually referred to the Holocaust as a 'reprehensible crime', thus widening the circle of the credulous - of those who will leap onto the Bandwagon of Emergent Moderation. And Israel? Bibi by bowing to US pressure not to dismember these sites in a military attack is currently trapped, also in part by the Words of Love from Obama yesterday. The American Jewish community remains mesmerized by O'Barry. Looks like rain..

This administration is reminding me more and more of a cat that runs into a screen door.

"I meant to do that." (staggers away)

That's not nice. Give him some face, else he'll draw red lines around himself that no one could cross.

Doesn't President Obama know the Iranian hierarchy?

Doesn't matter, he desperately needs a photo-op. He would have talked to an Iranian janitor, if there was one tagging along.

Anyone with some sense of shame would have resigned by now. Anyone but Sheik Obubu. I am convinced he will end up like Mussolini. If I was a member of his family I would move to the opposite end of the planet, even if to avoid sharing in the disgraceful spectacle this buffoon is providing for the whole world.

Go Obubu, genuflect before them may be they'll love you this time!
