Stating the administration does “not assess that limited military strikes will unleash escalatory reactions in the region,” National Security Adviser Susan Rice made the case for her boss’ use of force authorization today at a Washington think tank.

“There’s no denying what happened on Aug. 21,” Rice said at the New America Foundation address, stressing that Bashar al-Assad’s forces loaded chemical weapon payloads onto rockets that were fired into an opposition-controlled pocket of the Damascus suburbs.

“Innocent civilians were jolted awake, choking on poison; some never woke up at all,” she continued. Adding that all deaths are tragic “whether by bullet or land mine or poisonous gas,” she justified acting now by stressing “gas plumes shift and spread without warning; the masses of people they can fell is immense.”

“Chemical weapons like other weapons of mass destruction kill on a scope and scale that is entirely different from conventional weapons — opening the door to them anywhere threatens everywhere.”

Rice said only the Syrian army had the capability to unleash an attack of the scale seen in Ghouta. “The opposition does not.”

“The intelligence we’ve gathered reveals senior officials planning the attack and then afterwards plotting to cover up the evidence by destroying the area with shelling,” she added. “We assessed he’s been using them on a small scale since March” and is “lowering his threshold for use.”

Rice said the use of chemical weapons demonstrates a “threat to global security, including the security of the United States.”

“Failing to respond to this outrage also threatens our national security,” she stressed. “…Failing to respond makes our allies in the region tempting targets.”

She also cited “basic human decency” as one of the several reasons listed to respond, along with the proliferation of chemical weapons that could unleash “more fearsome consequences.”

“Failing to respond could indicate that the United States is not prepared to use the full range of tools necessary to keep our nation secure. America’s ability to rally coalitions and lead internationally could be undermined…it would send a perverse message to those who seek to use the world’s worst weapons.”

When Obama elevated Susan Rice to her current position it displayed one of two things; either he didn't understand how offensive the crazy video narrative was or he wanted to offend us even further.

"Failing to respond could indicate that the United States is not prepared to use the full range of tools necessary to keep our nation secure. "

Our immigration policies have already demonstrated that that is the case. Locking up the borders and keeping the scum out would have kept us safe from 911 as well as the more recent Boston Bombers. To paraphrase Glenn Reynolds, I'll believe there is a crisis when the Enlightened Ones start personally acting like there is. Until that time comes I will hold fast to the notion that its all just a con job and I for one don't want to be one of their marks.

"compel the Arab Spring to an ever darker and more ominous turn"

That's already happened. Just ask Amb. Chris Stevens.

It is surreal that Obama will send his poodle Rice to push agitprop. What a joke!

The word W*ORE comes to mind when Rice appears. She has been bought and programmed by Obama and will do and say anything he tells her to. Why anyone within sight or earshot of her would not get up and walk away is beyond me. I would say to SPIT on her but then that would lower us to the Chicago way.

Susan Rice is a sad joke as a proffered representative of just about anything. Frankly, the less said about her, the better.

She's empty, just like Obama.

No one in the Administration has ever read Sun Tzu's "Art of War" or anything similar, have they? They say the silliest things: "That side does not have that type of weapon." "This side is doing a, b, c." War isn't so predictable or so easily figured out. If you can clearly see what needs to be done, you're probably falling into a trap. I guess that's why classic combat tricks keep working though they've been around about 3,000 years. Naïf, ingenuo, infantil.

Assad and Putin teaming up to goad and prod Obama into a quick response using a miniscule attack; could mean that they WANT Iran to unleash upon both Israel AND the U.S.A. at the same time ... they think Obama is weak; and Islam thinks it has a friend in the WH.

Failure to respond - heh- what about the refusal to respond to the Benghazi attack? The Obama administration refused assistance - and it's one year later and their only action has been to attempt to blame it on an 'American video' and then, to sweep it all under the rug. Why believe Rice and Obama?

And to resort to the smarmy 'Appeal to Pity' of 'it's a matter of basic human decency' is obnoxious. Does she think we are that gullible? What about the fact that Obama has ignored the over 100,000 killed by guns and bombs in Syria already - what is there about gas that makes him suddenly weep in horror? Remember how he ignored the Iranian 'Green Democracy' demonstrations?

Or is the real situation, as it always is with Obama, about Himself? He got himself backed into a corner with his pompous 'red line'. He's tried, since then, to get himself out of this by making that red line..ah..a bit fuzzy. He has to be SURE, you see. When the world laughed at him and derided him (and Obama as a narcissist can't abide being put down)...well, Obama puffed himself up and said 'we'll go to war'. Wow.

But he has no plan. No agenda. Nothing. Just a 'shot across the bows'. Again, the world has derided and sneered at him. And so has the American people who don't want to blunder into a morass. So, Obama, trying to get out of it, actually said he'd consult Congress. Remember, Obama who considers Himself superior to all and everyone, has no respect for Congress. He's using them to gain time.

Now, Putin, who mocks him, has given him an 'out' - an international control of Syria's chemical weapons. Ahh. And in typical Obama fashion, Obama is actually claiming that it was HIS idea! Yes, yes! He and Putin discussed it at the G-20! Yes!

So much for the angst. So much for regime change. So much for Obama - the narcissist.

"The decision our nation makes in the coming days is being watched in capitals across the world, especially in Tehran and Pyongyang,” Rice said.

They already know Obama can't find his backside with both hands. A response "just muscular enough not to be mocked" is going to do what? Make them laugh I suppose. Scare them? Nope.

If they are concerned about anything it's that we will wake up an elect a leader with a spine in 2016. Not holding my breath though.

"A response "just muscular enough not to be mocked"" is already a joke. Reagan didn't do much to Libya, not much more than a shot across the bow, but he did it deliberately, with surprise, and with a purpose. Libya straightened up and tried to play nice with America afterwards. Telling them weeks ahead of time, discussing it in countless meeting worldwide, having it critiqued in every newspaper doesn't have the same effect.

Rice has already shown her hatred for the truth and the American people.
She should be in Jail for treason, if not that then in Jail for being INEPT
