Tim Carney on the rise of same-sex marriage, at the price of religious liberty.

The Left has long been the aggressor in the culture war. The crushing power of government has long been their weapon.

Many politically involved writers and advocates concerned with liberty and equality fought to open marriage to gay couples. Now that they’ve won, here’s hoping that those who care about liberty will defend the liberty of cultural conservatives to live their lives according to their faith.

Ha ha ha ha. They won’t. Traditional folks are already being told, not in so many words, not to worry about their own fading freedoms, and to shut up.

I read somewhere recently that Jane Lynch of "Glee" fame is divorcing her same-sex spouse (Ellen DeGeneres married her present spouse, Portia de Rossi, after breaking up with Anne Heche). I suppose it's cold comfort that within a few years, after going through some expensive divorce settlements and nasty custody battles, gays will be a lot less enamored of marriage, like a lot of straight males presently are (see Dr. Helen's book, "Men on Strike").

Liberalism has never been about tolerating opposing viewpoints or allowing conservatives to live their lives according to their faith. It's about control first, and through exerting that control, imposition of the liberal agenda second. It's not about helping 'the little guy' or improving lives.

The political advocates were fighting for gay couples to marry so they could get the benefits. This was never about the religious beliefs of gay couples. Some churches around the US already performed gay marriage ceremonies, just lacking the licence (so it wasn't a legal wedding, just a ceremony).
