There were no indications Sunday that President Obama will visit the West, Texas, site of a fertilizer plant explosion that leveled part of a small town, leaving more than a dozen dead and dozens more unaccounted for.

Obama mentioned the tragedy in his Friday night statement on the capture of Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

“Let me say that even as so much attention has been focused on the tragic events in Boston, understandably, we’ve also seen a tight-knit community in Texas devastated by a terrible explosion. And I want them to know that they are not forgotten. Our thoughts, our prayers are with the people of West, Texas, where so many good people lost their lives; some lost their homes; many are injured; many are still missing,” he said.

“I’ve talked to Governor Perry and Mayor Muska and I’ve pledged that the people of West will have the resources that they need to recover and rebuild. And I want everybody in Texas to know that we will follow through with those commitments.”

Obama didn’t mention any visit to the area, even though he’ll be in the region. His guidance for the upcoming week said he and the first lady will be in Dallas on Wednesday for a Democratic National Committee fundraiser and at the George W. Bush Presidential Center dedication at Southern Methodist University on Thursday. West is about 80 miles south of Dallas.

He flies back for a Thursday evening Planned Parenthood gala in Washington.

The Dallas Morning News reported a memorial is planned Thursday at Baylor University for the deceased, including 10 volunteer firefighters.

Texas GOP Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz toured the devastation in West on Friday.

Today, I asked Cornyn via Twitter if there is any indication Obama plans to visit the community.

“Doubtful,” Cornyn responded.

Obama spoke at a televised memorial service last week for victims of the Boston Marathon attack and visited some of the injured in hospitals.

Obama wants to stay far away from anything that smacks of fertilizer. He needs to avoid unwelcome comparisons to his rhetoric.

Hopefully the people of Texas who hand out the permits to build these plants will remember to put ventilation systems in future buildings and not the kind that give off sparks.
We had a hydrogen plant in Pacoima go up last year from a pocket of Hydrogen in the top of a facility. Ventilation is a must in these buildings, live and learn through your mistakes.
Obama will not visit the Texas plant site unless he can hand out big money and get some back behind the scenes in the democratic process the Chicago way.....

Oh he'll be there all right.
He couldn't miss a chance to blame evil money-grubbing corporations.

Please give more details on Kentuckians freezing to death in this century, and explain how a presidential visit would have saved any lives lost.

Let's hope that Obama does NOT waste time and taxpayers money on a trip to West, TX. Such a visit would do nothing to help, it would only make publicity points for him.

Perhaps Obama fears Cheney might be hunting nearby.

Aside from the obvious snub by the national socialist who is the president, there is a benefit. That benefit is that the people of West, Texas probably have no desire to see, hear or otherwise acknowledge the existence of a man whose main feature is 180 degrees out from the average Texan anyhow.

Plus, they can get on with the business of caring for their own, becoming strong in their own community and acknowledging what is important. It is deeply personal and having the great gasbag appear would be like having the town drunk show up at a private birthday party for a beloved grandchild.

IMHO, there is work to be done in West.... Obama and his entourage would be a major distraction that would take away from the needs of the community and would do little to benefit them.

I suppose he'll visit the flood ravaged areas of Illinois since he is close to that state - and they voted for him in droves. Unlikely he'll visit Fargo North Dakota. Not enough voted for him there - and their democrat senator helped to slam-dunk the efforts of the gun grabbing wing of that party.

Why would he, there's no way he can use it for his Socialist agenda!
