Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) says President Obama’s failure to lead in the national budgeting process is “historic.” For the first time in 90 years, Congress has led the way in crafting a national budget instead of having the executive branch take the lead. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) has been first out of the gate with a budget. The Senate Democrats have also put a budget together, but the Obama White House has yet to put one forward.
America’s Radio News host Chris Salcedo asked Sen. Lee if the president is taking one of his international strategies into domestic politics.
“It seems this leading from behind strategy the president has put on his overseas philosophy is now coming back here at home on the fiscal policies. Your reaction, sir?”
“Well, it’s interesting,” Lee replied. “It certainly is historic, in the sense that as you pointed out it’s been about 90 years since it happened this way.”
Sen. Lee went on to note that Obama may be letting Congress get out in front because his previous budgets have not attracted a single vote in either house in previous years. “Maybe he has decided that his budgets have been sufficiently unpopular that he has decided to wait,” Lee said.
Lee added that defunding ObamaCare remains a priority, as it should be. ObamaCare continues to create uncertainty in the private sector and is not curbing the escalating costs of health insurance premiums.
“Leading from behind” first surfaced as an Obama policy during the 2011 war in Libya, which ousted dictator Muammar Ghadaffi but has resulted in chaos that allows al Qaeda elements to build power. On September 11, 2012, those terrorist elements assaulted the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya, killing four Americans including Ambassador Chris Stevens.
