According to a study released by United Van Lines, Americans continue fleeing many of the policies pushed by the Obama administration and its Democrat allies. Four of the top five states seeing more outward migration than inward are blue states that voted for Obama’s re-election. The lone exception is a recently turned red state that is being devastated by the Obama government’s war on coal.
The top five states seeing their citizens leave include New Mexico at number five, New York, West Virginia, Illinois and New Jersey at number one. All of these states are forced union membership states, as are all of the other five in the top ten states that are losing residents. Two have Republican governors, New Mexico with Gov. Susanna Martinez and New Jersey with Chris Christie, but all five still have Democratic big government policies on taxes and spending — meaning, they tax too much and spend too much. New Mexico may be losing most of its outbound to next door Texas, which is home to the lion’s share of the new jobs being created despite the Obama economy.
Notably, Washington DC, which has been enjoying a boom thanks to Obama’s growing government, is seeing a strong inbound flow. People know where the jobs are.
One problem that the red states face as a result of this migration: Blue staters escape the collapsing economies their own votes have helped create, then move to red states, but keep voting for those same destructive Democratic policies.

Writing from Denver, Colorado, we have certainly experienced this problem:
“One problem that the red states face as a result of this migration: Blue staters escape the collapsing economies their own votes have helped create, then move to red states, but keep voting for those same destructive Democratic policies.”
Colorado might still be “Purple,” but the trend is Blue. Colorado is finished. The oil and gas and mining industries are just barely holding on, but it will not be long before government policies require those industries to move to nearby Western red states. Taxes are going up. Schools continue to deteriorate (although the Democratic elite have successfully balkanized the school system to ensure that their “government” schools are privately backed). The State pension system is bust; still modeling 8% annualized real returns. The biggest company headquartered in downtown Denver is DaVita – absent Medicare and other government payments the company does not even exist.
Furthermore, the Republican Party is moribund with its grandees working diligently to protect their assets in our farcical fiat driven economy and bemoaning social conservatives. Nowhere to go but down…
The Red money flees, or finances National campaigns and the Blue money grows and grows and doubles down on Colorado. There were 5 Democrat “volunteers” working the precinct I served as a poll watcher last November. There to oversee 150 ballots cast (including 60 provisional ballots). Oh well, I am sure it will pay off for those “low information” voters.
It’s not just Colorado, it’s everywhere the leftist flee to. All throughout the South the liberals have come and begun wrecking cities and states with their big government demands.
They also aren’t liked by most of the people either. They tend to have very arrogant and superior attitudes. One can really understand how the various natives have felt when some pompous so and so showed up and says they are bringing civilization. Really? If your system was so great why did you leave it?
Anyway, liberals won’t be happy until the whole country looks like Detriot, and truthfully not even then.
In a larger analogue, this is the Third World and America. And when they’re done here, Canada, with only 35 million people, makes an attractive target.
Of course they’ll have to wait for the empty areas to be redecorated and infrastructure, law and business put in before winging in for the feast. There’s no one to do that back home because back home is full of themselves.
Bryan,
Al Gore is coming to SXSW this year to be interviewed by the WSJ. Want to help organize/attend a demonstration telling him to get out of Texas?
Americans Keep Voting Strike
AgainstBlue State Policies with Their Feet and Their Grubby Little HandsGov. Perry, get your behind out of the state of California and build a wall while you still got the chance. Good Lawd man, haven’t you realized they’re like a plague of locust, moving from one green field to the next until all our brown?
Not all of the people fleeing these blue states are liberals searching for new jobs. I live in Upstate New York, and I am a conservative living in a red county, but with the recent oppressive legislation forced through by Cuomo, my husband and I are seriously considering moving to Texas. And I wouldn’t be turning Texas purple
Oops…try that again.
Americans Keep Voting
AgainstWith Blue State Policies with Their Feet and Their Grubby Little HandsSigh…I’m bad enough with a preview key.
Have some measure of heart. The California lady (Inga Barck sp)who hosts the Mark Levin show when he’s off is a conservative, supports conservative causes within the State and fields some oft frustrated conservative California callers. Let’s just hope Governor Perry will be recruiting Conservative red-blooded Californians, who understand what they are moving to and why.
I’m in the heart of an Obama-land and am flaunting my “Cut Spending Now,” “Everything you get from the Government was taken from someone” and my “Rick Perry” bumper stickers with pride. I appreciate Texas Red-State persona and your Governor. Wish I could move. I’d come and help keep Texas a deep red. We are around!
If necessary develop a strategy to educate the new comers on the merits of converting.
Sounds like time to start tinkering with the electoral college before we’re sunk. How about each state sends a number of electors equal to the number of counties and county-equivalents (independent cities, parishes, etc) in that state with each elector’s vote bound by the popular vote outcome of the county or equivalent they represent? Allowing Chicago to call the election for the state of Illinois is a travesty. Likewise vis a vis Philly/PA.
I’d also like to see immediate seating of elected officials immediately following certification of their election by the concerned state’s AG. At a minimum elected officials that lose are immediately barred from ANY further voting on any matters. No one’s walking uphill, or riding horseback, both ways in the snow to get to DC anymore. Death to lame duck sessions!
The blue folks do tend to be big government loving activists.
The red folks peacefully go about their business simply enjoying what is left of heir freedoms in the red states.
The red state conservatives DO NOT STAND A CHANCE against the swift, surprise attack of these blue state harridans.
Ugh.
You’re right. That is why failure of states like California and Illinois as well as various liberal cities, is something to fear. The financial cost is only the tip of the iceberg. The real cost will be the liberal diaspora into the Red States and the damage such a flood will do. Of course, if the majority of politicians were real human beings and not power obsessed things, they would stand by their principles and stick to their red state beliefs until the Dems either converted or moved on to bluer pastures.
people in illinoise better get moving. today fox news featured a segment about a sneaker tax.
