The tyrant of Chicago is at it again. Mayor Rahm Emanuel is now pushing mutual funds to divest and blacklist gun manufacturers for the crime of opposing the Obama regime’s gun-control efforts.
Emanuel’s statement on his assault on the First and Second Amendments:
“Just like the banks and pension funds, I believe that these Mutual Funds can exert an enormous amount of influence by taking a stand against gun manufacturers that continue to refuse to support commonsense reforms like required background checks and an assault weapons ban. The time is now for everyone to do anything they can to stop these military-style guns and magazines from ending up on the street and putting families, children and police officers at risk,” said Mayor Emanuel. “This has to be about doing what is morally right and not what is financially beneficial to their bottom lines.”
Mayor Emanuel is sending a letter today to the chief executives of Allianz, BlackRock, Dimensional Fund Advisors, Vanguard, James Investment Research and Capital World Investments. All of the funds own stock of gun manufacturers who are actively lobbying against safety reforms. The mayor is asking the mutual funds to divest from these companies until they support these reforms.
Nice company ya got there…
Last week, Emanuel sent a similar letter to banks, pushing them to strangle gun manufacturers’ credit lines until they bow to Obama.
These are deadly serious actions. Emanuel’s thrusts are clearly part of the Obama regime’s coordinated attack on the Second Amendment. Emanuel was Obama’s chief of staff prior to being elected mayor of Chicago. Obama proposes his 23 bullet points, Senate Democrats hold hearings to ramp up the emotional pressure, Feinstein pushes an “assault weapons” ban, and Rahm forms the pincer on the other end of the attack, going after law-abiding companies and their right to exist and disagree with the president’s proposals.
If all of this succeeds, we’ve gone over the tipping point. The Second Amendment was written precisely to keep citizens safe from the likes of these zealots.
More: Chicago already has some of the most restrictive gun control laws in the country, but its murder rate over the past decades has eclipsed the US military’s death toll in Afghanistan. Most of those murders involve gang violence. But Emanuel is choosing to go after law-abiding companies and citizens rather than take on the gangs.

Sign of weakness. They ain’t convincing the public.
The legislation will die in the House and the exec orders will die in the Supreme Court.
This might not be a bad thing????? Help me if I go too far astray…
Mutual Funds usually have blocks of stock large enough to influence shareholder meetings and often enough votes to have seats on the boards of companies they invest in…. which gives them the ability to interfere in the operations of firearms companies. If I also recall, union pensions are big investors in many mutual funds.
Dumping large blocks of stock on the market is usually bad for a company, but if the public relations were managed properly it could be turned into a boon. Gun Owners tend to be conservative, responsible sorts. Which means most of them have retirement and investment accounts….. and who wouldn’t want to own stocks that are currently performing very well.
And in the meantime, the manufacturers have the ability to advertise which Funds are dumping their stock, so that investors can dump the Funds.
So are you saying that Emanuel’s urging will have little or no effect, and could possibly turn into a positive?
It reminds me of when Sen. Harry Reid wrote a letter (signed by 40 other Senators) to Clear Channel critizing Rush Limbaugh over the ‘phony soldiers’ remarks he made about those who falsify their military service. Limbaugh turned it into a huge positive by auctioning off the letter (I believe it brought over $2M) with the proceeds going to scholarships for children of Marines killed in action. In the end, Reid had egg on his face and Rush was the hero.
If you can make lemonade out of lemons, why not turn Rahm into Hard Lemonade?
Hey banks own the government and not the other way around. Rahm can talk all he wants, he’ll get nowhere. Banks and government are making a killing off of guns. So rev up the scare machine. Buy buy buy.
Here is my comment on “Thug” Emanuel’s efforts.
1) The second amendment prohibits the government from restricting the public’s access to own firearms (and ammo).
2) Emanuel used to be part of the federal government, is a friend and major supporter of Obama, is heavily involved in the democratic party.
3) The democratic party, as part of the federal government, is trying to restrict private ownership of guns and ammo.
4) Emanuel is trying to convince (or intimidate) Banks and mutual funds (private companies) to discriminate against manufacturers of guns and ammo.
5) Since Emanuel can be considered the left-left arm of the Obama administration (want to bet there are emails between he and his un-Democratic buddies as well as the various G. Soros organizations), this would be the government attempting to extort through intimidation of the public companies to discriminate against lawful manufacturers of guns and ammo, thereby depriving the civilians of this country from owning/purchasing guns and ammo.
6) This would therefore be the government attempting to violate or actually violating the second amendment (maybe it would fall under “racketeering” laws).
7) Gun and ammo companies should therefore file a lawsuit against Emanuel and the un-Democratic party for violating their Second Amendment rights.
What’s the difference between a Mafia don and Rahm Emanuel?
Well, for starters, a Mafia don actually provides you a tangible service in return for your extorted payments.

Shows what bad people do when they hold to much power. Leaders like Emanuel and Bloomberg are a poster face for meddling to much in peoples and business lives. Sure glad I do not live where these Kings lead!!
It would be interesting to see the response if the same methods were used to deny the use of the banking system to say Planned Parenthood. Something tells me turnabout would not be seen as fair.
The second amendment secures a God-given right to self defense. The act of self defense may be immediate, as in defending from a criminal attack, or may be more passive as in defending against the growth of government tyranny.
This God-given right to self defense not only exists as a natural right for humans, but is something God has given to all life. Walk up to a sleeping grizzly bear and kick him in the head… guess what happens? The bear will exercise his right to defense, and you become take-out dinner. Corner and poke a rattle snake with your foot and guess what happens? Another act of self defense…
God has not abdicated. He has not turned over His creation to a bunch of deluded dictators like Emanuel, Feinstein, Bloomberg or Obumma. They have no right to restrict a God given right such as that secured in the second amendment. Period. Pass your illegal laws, I will ignore them.
DHS has now decided to order 7000 AR-15 style rifles. Why? If, as gun control advocates and the government contend, they are only useful for killing large numbers of people as rapidly as possible, why are they ordering these weapons? Who do they plan on killing in large numbers?
God has not abdicated. Thank you, no, Rahm. I will keep my firearms. Every one of them. I will use them for both sporting purposes and self defense. And this will remain the case until the good Lord tells me to beat them into plowshares.
I say repeal the second amendment. When the second amendmen was written, it was intended to be used to defend the “state”. It’s a one-sentence acknowledgement of the fact that this small new nation was without a standing army so citizens would have to be called to defend it in case of attack. There is absolutely nothing in it that speaks to defending oneself or hunting or just walking about shooting.
Except, of course, the only part that stands on it’s own…”The Right(not need) of the People to Keep and Bear Arms SHALL NOT be Infringed,”
Except for that you have a point.
However, I suggest you do try to repeal the Second. That would be the proper Constitutional course for marxist/statist gun banners.
I suspect you would, in the end, end up facing an armed(well armed) rebellion should you succeed. Go for it, worked out well for the Brits.
It’s a lot easier to write letters than to blame a popular sub-culture that thrives on vulgarity, phony notions of respect and sociopathic behaviors. These behaviors are tacitly approved every time there’s a BET or NAACP Spirit Awards show. It is a behavior that is embedded and institutionalized within black youth culture, and even mainstream TV and film.
It is also a tacit admission that the fault does in fact lie in the stars, white stars. Since Obama was elected, the political Left in America has adopted the view of the black Left that the real problem is white privilege and the New Jim Crow; not the people who do the crimes, but the people who don’t do the crimes. It’s no coincidence that our Dept. of Justice is nothing more than an arm of the NAACP.
It is the Orwellian habit of the Left to keep applying splints to the leg that is not broken. It has resulted in a nearly unbroken record of progressive failure. Stick your head out a window when you have a cold, or pray to a cat when you’re unemployed – same result.
Gun prohibition, Constitution bashing, and immigration pandering will be the talking points ad nauseum until election day.
Just days after calling its newly hired armed security guard “a tremendous asset to the safety of our students,” a Michigan school released a statement saying the retired firearms instructor had caused a “breach in security protocol” by leaving his handgun unattended in the school’s bathroom. This was in a K-8 elementary school.
I’m guessing they hired either the cheapest or hired based on affirmative action and not for skill and dependability. When guns are involved, cheapest or politically correct isn’t what you need. Scrupulous attention to safety is needed. Skill and training is needed.
All the more reason to just allow the common man(teachers/parents) to carry. Would not need that security guard, and I never leave my gun lying around.
It is all rather sickening to read people who don’t live in Chicago, my home town, suggest that the solution to gun violence in Chicago is more guns. The problems run much deeper; de-industrialization, systemic racism, gross income inequality, free trade policies that benefit the wealthy while disenfranchising the middle class, etc. Inner-city Chicago is a horror story coming to a city near you unless we begin to address the core issues. Or just arm up and hope for the best.
So, your argument is that “liberal” policies have caused the problem? You’re probably right.
The problems run no deeper than the foolish public that votes buffoons and socialists into office. I spent 10 years in Chicago and left when the opportunity presented. Reap what you sow, Windy City.
The problem is that you have a class of individuals who can’t work because you’ve taxed and regulated them to death, and have been told since the late ’60s that it’s YT’s fault.
Y’know, it is. The white Democrapps who run the city of Chicago are entirely to blame. I guess their new strategy is to just let them all kill each other, since they now know you can’t abort ALL of them.
In other words, as I said above, the problem is me. Good luck solving that “core” issue.
People who believe in moronic concepts like “systemic racism” in 2013 have never read biographies of successful people.
Sit down, roll up your sleeves. Write HTML, teach yourself Photoshop, write a novel, become a great illustrator, whatever. Not seizing the day is not systemic racism, it’s sloth. The value system a typical inner city has would result in failure for any people who practiced it, of any color.
Do you think Edgar Rice Burroughs rose to the top of the heap by pouting, blaming, making excuses and dreaming of shooting his enemies that looked at him funny? Get a grip.
De-industrialization is the natural outcome of onerous regulation and overpowered unions.
Systematic racism is blamed when the real culprit is the destruction of families and degeneration of values and culture in the inner cities.
Free trade punishes those that can’t produce and compete; likely due to the above factors.
So yes, that is the future of our inner cities, given their addiction to voting blue.

You are far more optimistic than I. The Democrats have been getting everything they want in the House since the election. The Leftists vote as a block, and Boehner and about 40 of his inner circle of Institutional Republicans vote as a bloc against the rest [about 170] and with the Democrats, giving Nancy Pelosi victory.
As far as the Supreme Court is concerned, since Chief Justice Roberts ruled in the Obamacare case that the Mandate did, in fact, violate the Constitution, but that legislation could violate the Constitution so long as it was framed as a tax; means that Obama has control of the Supreme Court.
Subotai Bahadur
There are only two publicly traded gun companies for mutual funds to blacklist: Smith & Wesson and Sturm Ruger and Co. Of the two, Smith & Wesson can’t consistently turn a profit, so it isn’t a good investment anyway. Sturm Ruger and Co. is a small-cap stock with close to a billion dollars in market cap, but it consistently turns a profit and pays a steady dividend. It’s pretty volatile, as are most small caps, but it fits well in a small-cap fund.
Face the facts and the truth.
Rahm is a crook thug.

Two words, f^»k Y@u.
And good luck elitist gas bag lib crooks, you’re gonna need it.
It would be an interesting turnabout to identify the bond holders for the City of Chicago and start pressuring them to divest the bonds or at least drive their bond ratings down even farther. That would, at the very least, result in Chicago having to spend millions of dollars more in financing costs, which would definitely hurt an already cash-strapped city. Maybe just wishful thinking on my part, but perhaps someone like Rick Perry in Texas has the wherewithal to pull that off. I mean, in terms of financial capabilities, who would you rather deal with – Texas or Chicago? I can dream, anyway.
are the dumbest dim bulbs in the country
What disturbs me the most is the lack of push back (except Ted Cruz) that this guy is getting. Also disturbing is the fear these companies seem to have for this administration and how quickly they fold. What “under the table” threats are they perceiving?
The real core of the problem is that Chicago politicians have been working with these street gangs to make sure locals vote the right way. In exchange, the politicians get the police to leave the gangs alone.
http://www.chicagomag.com/core/pagetools.php?mode=print&url=%2FChicago-Magazine%2FJanuary-2012%2FGangs-and-Politicians-An-Unholy-Alliance%2F
This has been going on for a long time now and the politicians have the nerve to act like guns are the problem.
Yup. The city with the strictest gun control oppression wants to disarm legal, law abiding citizens to make it safer for their gangs to terrorize an unarmed populace. As far as any “push back”, how do we know there isn’t any? With a complicit MSM propaganda machine at work, how would we know? The liberal claim is no armed citizen has ever defended themselves….. and I, for one, know that is an out and out lie.
Welcome to the United Socialist States of Amerika.
And now the gun-grabbers are trying to pass legislation to sue gun manufactures for the firearms committed in crimes. If your husband was killed by a drunk driver, would you sue the company that made the car? It’s the same thing.
