Rep. Hank Johnson took to the House floor Thursday to — not making this up — apologize for calling what he terms “abnormally small people” “midgets.” Here’s what he said Wednesday night in the House.
“If you put a midget against a giant, he won’t win. They are in entirely different weight classes [in cage-match fighting]. But if you put 30 midgets in with that giant, they just might win [collectively].” -Hank Johnson (~8:00PM ET, 12/12/12, House of Representatives General Speeches)
Johnson used what he now calls the “m word” in that metaphor. This metaphorical fight thankfully did not threaten to capsize the island of Guam. But it did deliver comedy gold as Johnson substituted the “m word” for something he thinks is better: “abnormal.” Guess he hasn’t watched Young Frankenstein.
The transcript of Johnson’s apology reads like a clever sketch lampooning Democrats and political rhetoric generally.
Johnson: When we say little people, I’m not talking about the Helmsley little people; I’m not talking about the 47%; I’m not talking about the takers instead of the makers as some would describe them; I’m not talking about the middle class, working people, poor people, working poor people — that’s not what is meant by the little people term. It really refers to a medical condition, dwarfism is the name of that medical condition, and sometimes I guess one can even say abnormally small people, abnormally small people which to me is — I like that term better than dwarfism.
And it gets even more surreal when Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) condescendingly pats Johnson on the head for his apology.
Schakowsky: People understand that there are those who are deeply offended by it and that we should all learn what not to say so as to defend, uh, offend people.
From there, Johnson went on to promote a web site about “abnormally small people, or little people, or unusually small people.” Johnson went on to defend his original analogy, then altered it to a story about little fish having to learn to get along with bigger fish or they will get eaten, before launching into a tirade against the legislative group ALEC.
So…it’s the fault of smaller fish when they get devoured by tiger sharks, because they never learned to get along with them. Noted.
Stunning fact: Hank Johnson was a judge, for 10 years, before being elected to represent Georgia’s 4th Congressional District.

Vote skin instead of brains and you get skin instead of brains. Ethnic voting for ethnic along with general political correctness among half of whites has resulted in an unprecedented amount of idiocy.
Many corporations and higher-ed schools aren’t even allowed to take the best man for the job. Ex-slaves, a people whose empire was bowled over by a few dissolute Spaniards, and women, makes for a rainbow coalition of history’s also-rans dedicated to spreading failure throughout America. It does not lead to the New York Yankees.
The things that liberals say and believe in on a regular basis would’ve meant an insane asylum 60 years ago and has meant resounding failure throughout human history. Liberals are against racial and gender supremacy, and so, being idiots, that is of course exactly what they advocate.
If I were to make a political cartoon of our PC mess, it would be a fat, black, Latina lesbian in a dunce cap singing “Tomorrow Belongs To Me.” Elvis used to be the King, now it’s identity.
Imagine PC’s children 50 years from now facing a similar war in the Pacific as 1942. Not only would they refuse to fight it, they’d get their asses kicked if they did. Like Melissa Harris-Perry said, our response to 9/11 was racist. No doubt so was our response to Pearl Harbor.
To an idiot.
“Hank Johnson”
One reason why people shouldn’t take democracy too seriously.
he does make a fair point
it is quite difficult to keep up with the ever changing/evolving tally for acceptable/unacceptable terminology in the peecee world
Just listening to Rush who played some memorable HJ clips. This is also the guy who worried that island of Guam might “capsize”.
This is what you get when the mentally challenged (stoopid lefty!) try to walk back a comment using the vertically challenged for analogy. Foot, meet mouth – rinse and repeat.
And if too many midgets move to live on one side of Guam, the island may tip over. LOL. Wow. The liberal party sure has some bright, bright folks making laws in this country.
“The Stupid is strong in this one.”
What did this guy “judge”? Bass fishing contests in Georgia?
Lets not assume this guy is functioning normally. He has Hepatitis C which is allowing a bunch of toxins to damage parts of his brain. He cannot think clearly despite once having been a really smart guy. Don’t assume he is naturally stupid or elected just because of his race. His predecessor was genuinely stupid and he is a welcome relief despite his unfortunate incapacitation.
The real problem is that the Democratic party feels too sorry for him to do their jobs and put somebody better in his place. He may be seriously ill but that is no excuse to leave him in the sensitive positions he holds.
