When you vote for big, crappy, incompetent government run by a tool in a bomber jacket, don’t be shocked when you get big, crappy, incompetent government run by a tool in a bomber jacket.
Dr. Manny Alvarez is the Senior Managing Editor of FoxNews.com/health, as well as a member of Fox News’ Medical A-Team, and he’s among those who have visited some of the hardest hit areas; according to him, health concerns are a major factor for the millions whose homes and businesses were destroyed or damaged.
“To me, it seems like the storm just happened yesterday, because they have been forgotten. Still a lot of state officials, health officials, FEMA haven’t gone out there to look after these folks,” he told America Live on Monday.
Many people affected by the storm already deal with illness and disabilities, but now add to those breathing issues and rashes from cleaning out areas contaminated with sewage and mold outbreaks.
“You have mold in thousands of homes, you have backed-up sewers that have come up into people’s homes and into the streets,” he said, adding that in most places it isn’t government workers helping homeowners and victims clean up the contaminated rubbish, but local civilian volunteers.
Medication supplies are also a great worry, as those who need doctors either can’t get there with transportation, or the offices themselves have shut down; in addition, many pharmacies aren’t even open to customers who need prescription refills.
“This is a major concern. People have to step up; I mean, how long are these people going to wait,” he asked. “If this continues for a longer period of time … things are going to get worse. Winter is here!”
As for a final thought on what he’s seen in the past few days throughout the area? His thoughts are chilling, and point back to another storm that devastated a different major city.
“I can’t see this happening in America, but you know, here we go again … this is Katrina 2012 for a lot of people here in the New York area.”
Barry sucks at pretty much everything except talking, but at least you can bounce a quarter off his butt. Too bad you can’t bounce real leadership or any good ideas between his ears.

Politico is quite right. I need to read their stuff so I can get out of this bubble I’m in. Find out what the rest of the country is being spun.
It is worse than Katrina. Their story is not being told because it would reflect badly on Obama! Welcome to the real United States of propaganda!

Hey, all you New Yorkers and Jersey-ites. Just make sure you keep on voting for Democrats. Cuz they gotcherback. /
Dumb shits. All of yuze.
Decades of voting for corruption — they were all happy they were getting their cut. Now they’re facing the reality that a government that spends its time making sure no one’s feelings are hurt hasn’t prepared for life-and-death situations.
I’d help them, but they don’t want my help.
Out here in flyover country, emergency response teams traveled to assist and were on site within 24+/- hours. FEMA et al had no plan, nothing for them to do, nowhere for them to stay and suggested they go elsewhere where they might be of help. WTF?!
The media has collectively “taken the Fifth” on all things Obama. They can’t reveal the full magnitude of FEMA’s devastatingly inept response without incriminating themselves.
“…in most places it isn’t government workers helping homeowners and victims clean up the contaminated rubbish, but local civilian volunteers.”
Since when did the FEDERAL government assume the role of first responder? Shouldn’t most of this be handled at the local, county, and state level?
Yes, that’s how it SHOULD be handled, but that’s not how government is trying to run things. Also, GWB got lots of negative press for the way FEMA handled Katrina. If liberals had any honesty (forgive me while I giggle), the lack of reaction to Sandy would get equal bad press.
Well, the MSM had little choice. First they had to make it a federal case to attack Bush. But also, had they gone after the state and local failures in Louisiana, they’d been attacking Democrats and failed Progressivism. Notice they really didn’t attack over the real Katrina disaster area in Mississippi. They attacked Bush also to avoid anyone looking to closely at the century long skimming for flood control project cash in New Orleans.
“The truth is provisional, and exists only to serve the interests of the state…”
Still a lot of state officials, health officials, FEMA haven’t gone out there to look after these folks
The problem is that “officials” don’t do anything except assign work to other people. FEMA is a coordinating agency, it doesn’t do any actual work. It doesn’t have “worker bees”, it’s a paymaster that assigns the worker bees. The explosion in government payrolls isn’t with workers, it’s with the bureaucrats who are focused entirely on the bureaucracy. It’s the same as with Public Schools – we’ve got the same student/teacher ratio we’ve always had but are spending astronomical sums to accomplish nothing but add bureaucrats to liaise with other bureaucrats.
And where are the “other people” that the work could be assigned to? Mayor Michael “Apocalypse Now” Bloomberg put them out of business. But don’t worry about “Doomberg”, he’s got $30 billion in taxpayer money to steal…
I continue to contrast the ongoing Sandy disaster to Florida’s reaction to FOUR major hurricanes in 2004.
There are minor things that practically every Floridian does to stay prepared: keep bottled water on hand, keep canned food stocked in your pantry, always make sure you have 30 days supply of any necessary medicines, fire up the chain saw at least monthly and make sure it has gas and oil, be completely prepared to bug out and leave your home if necessary.
And most of all, share what you have with your neighbors. Eventually the government may show up, but I don’t plan on dying waiting for them.
First Responders have come and gone. The 2nd responders, power line crews, are working but at some point they’ll reach a place where there is power at the pole but none in the buildings because the homes need repair before they can be energized. Oh, and just when you think you can move forward with the rebuild, the bureaucrats will hit you with new code requirements jacking up the cost. Trust me, someone down at city hall is implementing their plan for the area as we speak. And their plan doesn’t include a lot of working class people occupying single family homes.
But what is really failing is people expecting intermediate response. Help with mid-term shelter, food, etc. Some are going to have to bail. The jobs won’t return in damaged businesses for a good while, the homes can’t be repaired without people working, insurance payments will only pay off the mortgage, relief payments will be wasted.
Government suck at the mid-term help. It requires spending money on temporary resources, then getting those resources into the area. It doesn’t have shiny trucks nor big housing projects to siphon money from. And the people in need are not even favored progressive interest groups.
