As pointed out on Twitchy today, the “GOP wants to ban tampons” rumor has gooten going on Twitter. You may recall that we reported this one on October 7.
This is actually something that has fascinated me since the old Palin Rumors list. A story will start on a satire site — as this one did — and become common knowledge as the truth.
And Romney is gonna make everyone darker than him pick cotton. And and if they don’t grow cotton in your state he’s gonna make them grow it. And and…

I would be all for banning tampons, but if we do it we’ll have to go around checking people to see if they are being used, so like the newly elected dictator in Woody Allen’s Bananas, we will have to enact laws whereby the checking is made easier. In the film, the dictator passed a law saying that everyone would have to change their underwear eight times a day, and he made another law forcing everyone to wear their underwear on the outside, “So we can check.” Therefore, before we pass the law banning the use of tampons, we should pass a law forcing women to wear their vaginas on the outside, so we can check.

Based on Code Pink’s performance at the Republican Convention, as well as the Obama campaign’s “lady parts” references, I think the Democrats would fully support this idea.
Amazingly, the vast, and I mean VAST, majority of the commenters at Freewoodpost insist that it MUST be true, it HAS to be true, it can ONLY be true, and attack any of the regular fwp readers who point out that it’s satire.
I would say “unbelievable”, but the Left (aka “reality-based community”) is capable of virtually any stupidity these days. These clueless morons are the reason Romney isn’t leading in the polls by 20+ points.
This is completely consistent with Obama’s supporters claim that Romney has changed his positions on a variety of issues. $5 trillion tax cut for the wealthy. Kill Big Bird. etc.
They think their interpretation of Romney’s programs is correct despite the fact that they are consistently wrong.
I just hope he doesn’t forget to include Cat Hair in the ban… You never know what the people will figure out left to their own devices…
