With this redesign of the American flag, Barack Obama is literally saying “The state, it is I.”
Or rather, “The states, they are I” since he has replaced the stars that represent the states with his own logo. The design also mutes the red stripes, which represent the valor exemplified by patriots in America’s defense. The design does more than suggest America should be a muted force in the world, it says so out loud. It places Obama the man superior to the 50 sovereign states and to the nation’s history of fighting for and winning freedom throughout the world.
It’s a sign that the Obama campaign is embarrassed on America’s behalf. It’s the flag of a regime, not an administration or campaign.
The Obama campaign’s desecration of the American flag comes at an auspicious time. Terrorists in Cairo desecrated the American flag on 9-11 last week.
During the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi on the same day, the Americans murdered there left streaks of their own blood on the walls as their murderers pulled them out and killed them.
It is far from a leap to see a similarity between those blood-streaked walls and the regime’s new flag.

Replace unifying national symbols with personal or party symbols. Pledge fealty to a man, not the nation. This is how dictatorships start.

It’s a midway step to be sure, just pledging to vote (for fill in -Barack Obama- the blank).

There was another time, in another country, where people pledged allegiance, not to their country, but to a specific leader. Won’t use the name, don’t want to over-emphasize similarities, but it’s you-know-who.

The question is: is this “a bridge too far” for the Obama branding effort? Will this be the last part that will make supporters start to feel creepy about the cult of personality they are trying to build?

The fact that he can do this, on top of everything else, and poll higher than 10% shows exactly how far our country has fallen. For this election to be anything less than a landslide repudiation of Obama saddens me.

Incidently, I’m trying to think of anybody else who might have made up a symbol to unify and excite his party members and then later put in a national flag. I have this vague recollection of something like that maybe having happened once upon a time…perhaps folks can help me out.
If he’s the president of all of us, why does he keep making separate flags, presidential seals and stuff like that? Is that part of the fundamental transformation?
It is not the flag itself but the thought of making nation a whole uniting community that can lead us to success and progression. I am into the idea not the flag itself.
