The Daily Caller has obtained emails showing that the Eric Holder Department of Justice has regularly colluded with Media Matters to attack PJ writer J. Christian Adams.
Dozens of pages of emails between DOJ Office of Public Affairs Director Tracy Schmaler and Media Matters staffers show Schmaler, Holder’s top press defender, working with Media Matters to attack reporters covering DOJ scandals. TheDC obtained the emails through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. (RELATED: Complete coverage of Media Matters for America)
Emails sent in September and November 2010 show Schmaler working with Media Matters staffer Jeremy Holden on attacking news coverage of the New Black Panther Party voter intimidation scandal.
Holden attacked former DOJ Civil Rights Division attorneys J. Christian Adams and Hans von Spakovsky on Sept. 20, 2010 for what he called an attempt “to reignite the phony New Black Panther Party scandal.”
Before Holden posted his article at 7:52 p.m., Schmaler sent him several emails with information helping him attack both former DOJ oficials.
The emails reveal a systematic, longstanding effort by the DOJ to use Media Matters to attack journalists who uncover stories and scandals sensitive to the department. Media Matters is a tax-exempt organization, supposedly engaged in education.
Adams is far from the only journalist to receive attention from the DOJ-Media Matters partnership.
Among others, Gertz sent Schmaler attack pieces he wrote about Townhall Magazine’s Katie Pavlich, who also authored a book on Operation Fast and Furious; Breitbart.com writers Joel Pollak and Ken Klukowski; Fox News Channel’s William LaJeunesse, Judge Andrew Napolitano, Megyn Kelly, Martha MacCallum, Bill Hemmer, Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity; Sipsey Street Irregulars blogger Mike Vanderboegh; DirectorBlue blogger Doug Ross; National Review’s Andrew C. McCarthy; and this reporter.
TheDC filed its FOIA request on Dec. 4, 2011 and the Department of Justice acknowledged receiving it a day later. The request, however, was not fulfilled until Aug. 30, 2012 — far outside the 20-business-day limit to fulfill a FOIA request under the law. TheDC was not given any notification of a time extension in the months this request sat before DOJ acted on it.

But without a free press, how will this information get out? Only through outlets like this one. Keep up the good work, Mr. Preston. It takes courage and integrity for you and Mr. Adams to keep us informed, and forewarned.
But here is where I am at re the Obama Presidency. Every day I learn some new facet of corruption, collusion, and intimidation endemic in this administration and I have no more disgust to give. There is no bottom, no depths these cretins will not plumb for the sake of power. I have lost all feeling. I can longer be surprised, much less shocked by anything they do. I’ve been hit on the same spot so hard and so often, that the nerves have gone dead.
I have compassion for the direct targets of this thug, The Won, but every single American, whether or not he knows it, comprehends it, or believes it, is a victim of the malfeasance and ignominy of the Democrats in power, emanating from the stinking pile at the top. All the skin is scraped off the injury and we are down to the bare American bones. We will either stand up and defeat the parasites in November, or dissolve permanently into a lump of clay.
These emails are but the tip of an iceberg.

Brilliantly captures my experience as well. I sometimes wonder if the undecided voters are overwhelmed with the allegations coming from all sides, and take a cynical and dismissive stance about all of the allegations because “they couldn’t possibly all be true”
Eric Holder should be impeached and sent to jail.
Don’t worry, O’Reilly says that there is no far-left regime.
And he is an honorable man.
I hope that PJ Media has a legal dept. that is following up on this.
Why am I not surprised? I suppose if I had grown up before the Napoleonic era, before the word “ideology” was coined and propaganda still meant education, I would be surprised at reading that the court lawyers, officers of the king’s court, would play political favorites. Of course, if I could read in that era, I’d be one of the literate one percent enjoying my class prerogatives. Now most of us can read and lawyers in waiting apparently require free condoms to exercise their prerogatives to screw at George Town on the taxpayer’s dole. At least in the 18th century Europeans had no illusions about Islam and what it meant to be Muslim.
I do not have a problem with this. They both work for George Soros, don’t they? You gotta do what the boss says.
How is this not completely illegal?
Why are only the internet outlets covering this and not the networks or newspapers? Could it be that every single one of them is guilty of this as well?
This is the story of the year. A mass campaign of intimidation and collusion, an open-and-shut case of a political enemies list, and journalists being targeted by the White House and the full, armed, potentially deadly force of the illegal Obama regime.
The civil war is at most a few year away, people. Wake up.
When this gets ignored, what are you going to do?
The lines in the sand need to start getting drawn.
“Among others, Gertz sent Schmaler attack pieces he wrote…” This is the first and only reference to “Gertz” in this article. Neither Gertz’s full name nor an explicit affiliation for Gertz appears in or prior to this single reference to Gertz. If I have correctly divined the identity of the individual in question, perhaps it should have been “Among others, Matt Gertz, Deputy Research Director of Media Matters for America, sent Schmaler attack pieces he wrote…” or something of the sort.
