Earlier today two MSNBC commentators called for the prosecution of those involved in making the film that has been blamed for the attacks on US interests in Egypt and Cairo.
This afternoon, the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood-dominated government has formally called for such prosecution.
Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi asked the Egyptian embassy in Washington to take legal action in the United States against makers of a film attacking the Muslim Prophet Mohammad, the official state news agency said on Wednesday.
Morsi had requested the mission take “all legal measures”, the MENA agency said, without giving further details on what that might involve. (Reuters)
The United States should, but will not, tell Morsi to go to hell and cut off all aid to Egypt immediately. While Morsi and others use the film as a pretext for the attacks, evidence is mounting that the attacks in both Libya and Egypt were days, if not weeks, in the making.
The protest was planned by Salafists well before news circulated of an objectionable video ridiculing Islam’s prophet, Mohammed, said Eric Trager, an expert at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.
The protest outside the U.S. Embassy in Cairo was announced Aug. 30 by Jamaa Islamiya, a State Department-designated terrorist group, to protest the ongoing imprisonment of its spiritual leader, Sheikh Omar abdel Rahman. He is serving a life sentence in the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center.
When the video started circulating, Nader Bakkar, the spokesman for the Egyptian Salafist Noor party, which holds about 25% of the seats in parliament, called on people to go to the embassy. He also called on non-Islamist soccer hooligans, known as Ultras, to join the protest.
On Monday, the brother of al-Qaeda leader Ayman al Zawahiri, Mohamed al Zawahiri, tweeted that people should go to the embassy and “defend the prophet,” Trager said.

“The Last Temptation of Christ”
– Wine Investgations:
“We need an incident.”
“How about in a European Capitol? Their numbers are growing in those places and they’re always ready to riot.”
“No! We send major donors to those places.”

“Jesus Christ Superstar”
From Wikipedia:
Controversy
The Broadway show and subsequent productions were condemned by some religious groups. Tim Rice was quoted as saying “It happens that we don’t see Christ as God but simply the right man at the right time at the right place.”[11][12] Some Christians consider these comments to be blasphemous, the character of Judas too sympathetic and some of his criticisms of Jesus offensive.[13] At the same time, some Jews said that it bolstered the anti-Semitic claim that the Jews are responsible for Jesus’ death by showing most of the villains as Jewish (Caiaphas and the other priests, Herod) and showing the crowd in Jerusalem calling for the crucifixion.[14][15] The musical was banned in South Africa for being “irreligious”.[16]
Naturally, it is time to burn down the British embassy because of that cretin Weber’s blasphemy. That, and “Cats”…
How many theaters were burned down? Actors killed as a direct result of staring in the production?
How much did Weber have to pay in legal bills defending himself against lawsuits by Christian groups?
Until you can provide numbers, the two incidents are NOT comparable.
From Wikipedia:
Piss Christ is a 1987 photograph by the American artist and photographer Andres Serrano. It depicts a small plastic crucifix submerged in a glass of the artist’s urine. The piece was a winner of the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art’s “Awards in the Visual Arts” competition,[1] which was sponsored in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, a United States Government agency that offers support and funding for artistic projects. A print of the photograph was damaged using a screwdriver or icepick on April 17, 2011 while on exhibit in Avignon, France.[2]
Another example of how tolerant Christians are – seriously. The artist is NOT in hiding, is living in public and still making art. Not getting some grant money is not the same as being killed on the street (see Theo Van Gogh) over your artwork.
The two messages you are conveying are contraditory, so not sure what you are advocating. Either:
1. Christian groups are way more tolerant and adult when confronted with “blasphemy” and will act somewhat reasonably in the face of things that offend them.
OR
2. Christians need to start killing people if they want to be taken more seriously.
Given recent events and the responses elicited my vote is for 2!
Okay lets do a comparison of the two events. One person made a film that lots of people didn’t like. So lots of people who didn’t like it got together and murdered human beings that just happened to be from the place that the movie was made. They didn’t directly attack anyone directly involved in the making of said movie. On the other side you have a person who made a piece of art that lots of people didn’t like. Those people did not get together and kill anyone. They didn’t attack the artist or force him into hiding. They certainly would have never killed random Frenchmen for happening to live near the artist. They were civilized group who mainly just talked about not liking the art. However ONE of the people who didn’t like the art, attacked the art piece itself. He didn’t rape and kill anyone. He tore up the art itself. If you can’t see the civilized response from the disgusting barbaric response then there is no use talking to you. Oh it amazes me that you can homosexually rape and murder an innocent human being in the name of Islam but cartoons and films supposedly make the religion look bad. I would have guessed it was the other way around. Silly me.
I look forward to reporting to the FBI any stray comment I see on message boards saying impolite things about Christianity.
It’s just completely insane, what has happened to common sense? I love how Muslims can denigrate the Jews, threaten to wipe them off the face of the earth, use a Bible for toilet paper and say whatever they want about Christianity but NOTHING can EVER be said about them and their sadistic, sexist, depraved Mohammad. They are uncivilized, backward thinking animals and if any group ever deserved to be wiped from the face of the earth it would be them. But oh, no…when they attack us, we apologize, we change our way of life, we give up our freedoms and to top it off, we elect an anti-Semitic sympathizer as our President. This world has truly gone mad.
A republic IF you can keep it, dhimmitude if you cannot…
Imagine what 4 more years will bring, “fundamental transformation” indeed.
Mohaned Morsi (will he still be Obama’s WH guest later this month?) is calling for legal action against the filmmaker and Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz. is calling for a bias probe against Fox and talk radio, saying that the administration should provide…
“protection from the stimuli that is being promoted out there that is causing the correlation between violence, stereotyping and the increasing racism in this country against Latinos.”
I call for a probe of the new Egyptian president’s neural circuits and of Representative Grijalva’s grammar.

Morsi might want to be careful with asking for an investigation. He might just find that the real “offender” is one of his own.

“The self-proclaimed director of “Innocence of Muslims” initially claimed a Jewish and Israeli background. But others involved in the film said his statements were contrived as evidence mounted that the film’s key player was a southern Californian Coptic Christian with a checkered past.
…
Nakoula denied he had directed the film, though he said he knew the self-described filmmaker, Sam Bacile. But the cellphone number that the AP contacted Tuesday to reach the filmmaker who identified himself as Bacile traced to the same address near Los Angeles where Nakoula was located.
Nakoula told the AP he is a Coptic Christian and supported the concerns of Christian Copts about their treatment by Muslims.”
So the film was produced with backing from an inveterate white collar criminal who calls himself Coptic (!?) and the “Jewish” director Bacile just happens to live at the same address. I am betting that Nakoula/Bacile/whoever he is today is neither.
