A stunning exchange took place today when Assistant AG Tom Perez of the DOJ Civil Rights Division refused to commit to the House Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on the Constitution that it would never advance a law criminalizing the right to criticize any religion.
The non-commital answer by Perez was in response to a question asked by Rep. Trent Frank (R-AZ): “Will you tell us here today that this Administration’s Department of Justice will never entertain or advance a proposal that criminalizes speech against any religion?”
Here’s the exchange:
As Neil Munro at the Daily Caller reported back in October, Perez met with leaders from Islamic organizations who were demanding that DOJ categorize criticism of Islam as discrimination under federal statutes.
According to that Daily Caller report:
During his speech, Perez applauded the Islamist lobbyists for persuading government officials to end extra security checks on airline passengers from Nigeria and 12 Islamic countries. The checks were adopted in 2010 after a Nigerian Muslim tried to blow up a passenger aircraft on Christmas Day.
“What did we hear in the aftermath of that? We heard a lot of feedback from people in this room and from leaders across the country that we could be doing a better job [by ending the checks]… and a few month later, and thanks to you, we did just that,” Perez told the Islamist advocates.
But any member of Congress demanding answers about the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood is CRAZY!!!
The problem with this whole discussion is that it only applies to criticism of islam. If it applied to criticism of any religion we’d have to prosecute pretty much every imam in America since the koran criticizes Christians and Jews on numerous occasions. And most islamic speeches are critical of Jews, Christians and any other non-islamic religion, including atheism.
I guess this DOJ guy isn’t familiar with the First Amendment to our Constitution.
Of course he isn’t. He’s a left-wing lawyer; he’s spent more time reading Marx and Mao than Jefferson and Adams.
Freedom of speech includes hanging ones self with ones own rope.
This, and a host of other incidents, is the reason why Rep. Bachmann and others’ queries about Muslim Brotherhood influence within our government are pertinent.
Four more years of this treasonous administration will transform this country into one even more unrecognizable than that which we inherited from our predecessors.
4 more years of the Muslim in Chief and we may not have a United States! That’s no exaggeration either.
We’re living in a fascist police state now. If Obama is re-elected, it may–I repeat, may–become obvious to some of the liberals who re-elect him.

Perez gives away the template. He begins talking about “threats.” What he means is, they will entertain laws that criminalize “threats” against any religion. Then, any comment critical of Islam will be taken as a threat to commit some act of violence. Simple.
There is no need to look further. Progressives are tyrants, and intend to implement something similar to Stalinism here. There is no reason why any individual who cares about human liberty would ever, under any circumstance, participate willingly in a political system with Progressives.
It is LONG past due that we partition the nation, and create a new nation to secure our liberty in which no Progressives are present, and anybody known to be a Progressive is deported immediately.
Absolutely! But I am for deporting these traitors and keeping the Nation intact. No partitions, just remove them.
They consider Christianity a “threat” to pislam. This we must put first and foremost.
Insha’Allah we will be free to draw Moohamed in this country forever. Islam is on the verge of a sectarian world war. Get the popcorn ready. As for the Muslim Brotherhood, it’s easy to be a radical and stir things up. Let’s see how they run national economies.

As a British citizen looking from the outside, I greatly admire your 1st amendment and if any such law id passed it will be a very sad day indeed. The UK already has something similar with “hate” speech laws and they have definitely severely curtailed legitimate criticism, particularly of Islam which is where just about all the enforcement happens. Even the Archbishop of Canterbury, a noted liberal who originally supported the law, now recognises it as a mistake. Possibly because he has become more aware of the continuous attacks on Christians across the Islamic world.
Islam/koran should be crimilized because it calls for the deaths of others daily…Muslims are taught to be liars and killers from the day they are born….The world has to be crazy to allow it to remain…
There is a difference in critism of something and telling the truth about it……Muslims cannot recognize the truth in any form..They are too brainwashed…
How was the Koran written and by whom? Mohammed had a poor education at that time in history. Therefore for him to have the Koran developed he captured a Catholic Priest and a Jewish Rabbi and made them write the entire early Koran and then he had his men put them both down a well and had them killed, as so there would be no proof.

We have a Leader who is issuing EDICTS that are in clear violation of the Constitution of the United States AND standing United States legislation. We have any number of Extra-Constitutional agencies – that is, agencies that have been brought into existence by legislation AND ARE SUPPOSED TO BE SUBJECT TO CONTROL OF THE CONGRESS
Forbidding the criticism of- any -religion is cetainly not a precept of a free society or of Western civilisation by- silencing criticism of Islam supremacists succeed -have succeeded -they have -imposed -Shariah Law.

We are living in very uncertain times, my friends. But, those that would actually mean us harm recognize that we are a) too many, b) many of us are seasoned veterans with specialized training, law enforcement officers, and lifetime hunters and gun enthusiasts, c) thank God for the 2nd amendment – we are relatively well armed and last but by no means least, d) we have access to the NEW MEDIA where we find the truth behind the lies that they disseminate on a daily basis.
We have one party that is simply a criminal organization masquerading as a political party while protected by the MSM and another party too pusillanimous to act decisively for the good of the American people. All we can do is recognize the gravity of the situation, remain true to our principles and ideals, and make the RINO’s in our midst pay the price at the ballot box. We must force these sissy damn republicans to wake up and get with the program….the democrats are so radical and so anti-American that there can be no compromises; no more walking across the aisle. The communist/Islamist agenda must be defeated. Period. It is time to choose sides.
