Flashback: Pelosi Promised ObamaCare Would Create 400,000 Jobs 'Almost Immediately'

The following clip is from February 2010. The Democrats were grappling with passing ObamaCare and using shameless backroom deals to cobble enough votes together for passage. Then House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made a sweeping promise that the bill would create a large number of jobs.

PELOSI: So this bill is not only about the health security of America, it’s about jobs. In its life it will create 4,000,000 jobs, 400,000 jobs almost immediately. Jobs in the health care industry, but in the entrepreneurial world as well.

More than two years later, Pelosi’s promise remains unfulfilled. The “entrepreneurial world” remains terrified of the new liabilities that accompany each new hire, so they are not hiring. The economy is stagnating and flirting with going into recession. The bill Democrats sold as a reform has been ruled by the Supreme Court to be a tax.

But the health care bill has had one positive impact on jobs. ObamaTax has triggered a hiring frenzy at the Internal Revenue Service.
