Karl Rove escalated the war of words between himself and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi today. Appearing on Fox News, the former Bush adviser and current super PAC master was asked about Pelosi’s assertion that she “could have arrested Karl Rove any day I wanted to” when she controlled the US House of Representatives. Pelosi elaborated that she could have thrown Rove into a jail within the House. She was reacting bitterly to the House Oversight Committee’s vote to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for failing to turn over thousands of subpoenaed documents related to the Fast and Furious scandal.
When asked about Pelosi’s comments today, Rove laughed and mocked her, saying that she “is like Barney Fife with the one bullet trying to put it into his gun.” Rove noted that Pelosi had no authority to arrest him anyway.
Comparing Pelosi to the hapless Andy Griffith deputy isn’t the first humorous comparison Rove has made in reaction to her arrest comment. Wednesday night, he compared her to the “mad Red Queen” in Alice in Wonderland.
