Cable TV news is so darn restrictive, or something.
Andrea Mitchell did “address” the selective editing of a Mitt Romney clip Tuesday — by saying the show “didn’t get a chance to play” the rest of the mischaracterized clip and moving on to another topic.
Her show is an hour long, minus ads, about 48 minutes of real air time.
MSNBC told Politico’s Dylan Byers Tuesday Mitchell would “address” the editing of a clip that featured Romney speaking on WaWa convenience stores and bureaucratic inefficiency. The editing of the MSNBC clip implied Romney had never seen touchscreen technology.
It was a dishonest on-air manipulation of the source material to substantively change its meaning. Firings need to happen.
Update: Breitbart calls it a cover-up.
This is the second time this year that NBC has been caught red-handed deceptively editing to create an angle that did not exist in the original material. The first was the Zimmerman 911 calls, which NBC chopped up to make George Zimmerman sound racist. Now this one, in which NBC is trying to make Mitt Romney sound out of touch. And then trying to cover their tracks when caught out.

Bryan: FoxNews reported that NBC may have edited out revealing remarks from Bob Costas’ interview with Jerry Sandusky. Now that’s probably just Fox’ spinning the prosecutors’ recent demand for the full tapes. Anything to stick it to the competition, I suppose. But the rot at NBC seems to run pretty deep and may infect more than just political reporting and political bias. And the DA demanded them because they believe they may contain further defendant admissions.
I looked at the Sandusky story yesterday but didn’t post on it yet. He does suggest in one quote that he used his charity to seek kids for sex. NBC didn’t air that quote.
That quote actually did appear in the broadcast interview. See the New York Daily News report from November 15, 2011. It seems Fox got that wrong. What was edited out, according to Daily Caller, was the long pregnant pause (16 secs) before he finally denied being attracted to young boys.
Now, why, oh why, would NBC not simply leave in the pause? Isn’t it worth the 16 secs of extra airtime? What more did Bob Costas fail to share? (I guarantee you, he called the shots on the edit.)
Incidentally, I’ve not reviewed the posted transcripts of the whole interview.
Bryan – After the Zimmerman fiasco, NBC blamed it on mistakes, and proceeded to fire three peoples for those mistakes (or so they claimed). Now, with MSNBC’s having done the very same thing, it no longer looks like a mistake. Rather it is following the NYT in presenting all the news it can skew to fit its view.
what she did was cut out the part which told the truth. That is lying, just another form. When the POUS lies, everyday, in everyway, it sets the stage for corrupt people to tell lies and be untruthful in their own lives. That is one of the sad parts of obamanation’s serial lying…. he, or rather the office he holds, used to be one which could be held up as something proud… no longer is that true.
when someone lies, they should be called out on it, loud and clear… there has to be accountability or the person perceives they were successful in lying and will continue. That is the major problem with obamanation… no one, except Putin, has called him out.
– what O’Donnell said about Mrs. Romney troubling too.
