Politico, which has layers of writers but did no legwork on this story at all, gets a statement out of the most dishonest network in America:
UPDATE: An MSNBC spokesperson emailed the following at 4:30 on Tuesday afternoon:
“MSNBC did not edit anything out of order or out of sequence and at no time did we intend to deceive our viewers.”
No one accused MSNBC of editing anything out of order or out of sequence. What MSNBC did do was chop out enough of what Romney did say to totally change its meaning. That wasn’t an accident, because the on air airhead, Andrea Mitchell, pitched the clip to her guest as another Bush supermarket scanner incident.
As for MSNBC’s assertion that it did not intend to deceive its viewers, if that’s the case then they would have us believe that all those liberals tweeting how out of touch Romney is were deceived entirely by accident. Or, they all know what Romney said and are slamming him anyway.
What I’m saying is, NBC is still lying. Twice this year they have pulled the exact same stunt, dishonestly editing quotes to change their meaning and drive a political narrative that was not present in the original clip. The network thinks we’re dumb enough to buy its pathetic spin and excuses.

Tingles will be on soon telling everyone that she never did it.
And they’ll keep doing it as long as it fits their narrative. NBC is no longer a news organization but a political arm of the Democratic’s. Keep pounding away at them all.
“no longer”? Has it ever been? How about Dan Rather’s fake-but-accurate CBS? How about anti-Reagan-heckler Sam Donaldson’s ABC?
“The network thinks we’re dumb enough to but (sic) its pathetic spin and excuses.”
They’ve got lots of supporting evidence.
Oh, aren’t you clever.
Typo, fixed. When will NBC fix its dishonest editing?
To the postmodern, the juvenile and the crackhead, that dishonesty is immaterial.
It’s not a question of just editing the tape and showing it with little comment. Mitchell purposefully set up the tape and they guffawed at the end at something that never actually happened. MSNBC, for whatever reasons, isn’t going to go after Mitchell on this one and will instead simply stand pat and hope it goes away.
This decision by MSNBC may be because, if they try and go after an editor, that editor will confirm Mitchell was fully aware of the true context. Mitchell may even have been the source of the edit, knowing it’s actual context. The bottom line is that Mitchell is acting more like a Dem Party official and someone from JournOlist than a journalist.
Your on spot!! She should be ashamed of herself and I hope, really hope, that her future is extremely limited. She is now a libility.
Ashamed? Andrea has no shame – the MSM Has no shame. They get caught altering or editing in/out details that have the appearance of importance or simply fail to report on anything of importance if it brings a bad light on Zero – and they have no shame.
What about this surprises you?
Can’t the FCC do something about this? Or is it in Obama’s pocket also. One clever blogger suggested that the name of the show be changed to “Andrea Mitchell Distorts.”
MSNBC is a cable and satellite network. It isn’t broadcast over the traditional TV airwaves. The FCC has no authority over it.
Now, if I were Microsoft (the MS in MSNBC), I’d be pissed to see my company name associated with this garbage.
Yes, but a clever Republican state Attorney General might conclude that such actions constitute a campaign contribution and find them to violate state campaign finance laws. But that would risk being called partisan and mean-spirited.

…but poor Al; he has to sleep with HER
They often did get away with it, until the online revolution. Now they are being exposed as the liars that they truly are. I have no respect for the MSM and will not even go to their websites. And they wonder why their readership and ratings are tanking.
DUH!

Mitchell called this Romney’s “supermarket scanner moment”. This is an interesting reference, as it’s been proven pretty conclusively (by Snopes no less, not exactly a bastion of conservatism) that the whole thing with Bush at the Supermarket scanner was essentially made up by Andrew Rosenthal of the NYT. So, if she means this is the moment where Romney gets made fun of for something he didn’t do, and it (hopefully, as far as she’s concerned) destroys his political career, then yes, it is analogous.

at no time did we intend to deceive our viewers.
And Bill Clinton did not have sexual relations with that woman.
Benjamin Franklin once said that it was unwise to pick a fight with someone who buys ink by the barrel. Thank God for the New Media and that it is still free. Yes, the MSM has been lying and distorting the facts to the American people for a long time without any recriminations….The Sleeping Giant Awakes 11-6-2012. Revenge will be sweet when the ‘journalists’(loosest version of that word possible intended) are in a state of panic while watching the results come in from the largest landslide in modern history – across the board. I cannot wait to see their faces!
