CNN initially headlined its web story on the recall with this subheadline, over on the left:
As of this writing, with more than 75% of the vote counted, Walker leads by 11 percentage points, nearly 200,000 votes.
h/t to Patrick Poole for grabbing the screen shot before CNN changed it, which they have.
Update: Just in to the Tatler, a CNN poll update: Custer lost at Little Big Horn “narrowly.”
Also, Pickett’s charge failed, but it was a close run thing. And the Buffalo Bills lost those Super Bowls to the Dallas Cowboys by a whisker.
Update: The Hill’s coverage. Click to enlarge. Note the subheadline.
Update: Just in from CNN and The Hill: Walter Mondale loses to Ronald Reagan, narrowly.

…..which goes far to explain their market share.
Walter Durante candidate?
Or Baghdad Bob.
ObamaCare passed by a strong majority — Prez Butthead, April 3, 2012
“But comrade, this result is not according to theory.”
Yeah, that was the initial headline on Yahoo, too.
But that is presumably going to be the narrative. “Narrowly” and “Outside Money” and “Citizens United” blah blah blah.
Oh, and “Koch Brothers”
I am a Koch brother.
Their real-time web editing software apparently replaces non-family friendly phrases like “wipes his ass with…” with “narrowly defeats”.
In other news, Fox News narrowly leads CNN in the ratings.
Let’s be fair. Buffalo lost to Jersey-A (New York) by only one point.
CNN’s “breaking news” email was also filled with sour grapes. They mentioned that Walker “all but did away with collective bargaining rights” and angered labor unions, but they didn’t say a word about saving numerous teaching positions, restoring fiscal sanity or saving the taxpayers money. Oh, and the use of “narrowly” again. The electoral map looks like the Red Sea.
Are you referring to some sort of Crimson Tide?
When the first (phony) exit polls were announced, Wolf Blitzer spoke of a “50-50 race with implications for November!” I haven’t seen the man so wee-weed up in years. An hour later, as the real returns came in, ole Blitz calmed down and acted as if he were reporting a funeral.
Just imagine all that CROW being ordered ALL OVER DC and the beltway. It must smell like ASS!
Stupid ,loser,democrat ASS!
Shadenfreude for EVERYONE,My Treat.

Is there an emoticon for stuffing your face with SchadenFreude?
Who cares about CNN, let them fall on their own sword.

CNN- Crap Nobody Notices
2008 – Obama “narrowly” defeats McCain 53%-46%
That is how they described it, right?
Memo to CNN and The Hill:
“I don’t want to talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough wiper. I fart in your general direction. Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries.”
Now go away or I will taunt you a second time!
If you construct your view of the world by looking to CNN, life is going to hurt. Not only are they tools of the manufactured media machine, creating “news” based on what a single political party tells them, but this view is completely out of sync with reality. As President Obama talks excessively about flat Earthers, all you have to do to see an example of a crazy, confused, delusionary and nutty belief system is to read or watch CNN.
May CNN and evolution help weed out humanity’s rejects. “Fire is your friend.” “Jumping off of cliffs is good for your health.” Keep it up, CNN.
It was a laugher! Which was exactly what I hoped it would be late last week – a least a 10 percent margin. Hats off to the Wisconsin electorate!! Yu have shown us the way is can be this fall.
We have seen the future, and it is not Obamunism
Hmm – Obama’s victory over McCain was widely lauded as a landslide by the MSM in 2008 and that was what? 5-6% margin? But I suppose it depends on which side of the ‘sh*t flow’ analogy you’re facing. Since these clowns were at the bottom of the hill when the sh*t flowed tonight it seems they should feel buried – as in a landslide – no?
Lets see here – Scott Brown, check – Chris Christy, check – the 2010 general election/house retaken, check – Scott Walker recall, check – hot damn – Obama get ready to MOVE ON!
Bob Mcdonnell, check. Robert Turner (replacing Wiener in NY Dist 9)Check.
Bryan,
I just arrived in Osaka and turned on the TV ASAP to see what happened in Wisconsin.
This is what I quickly hammered at as a comment on a blog while viewing CNN in my hotel in Japan only about an hour ago:
Top of the Hour News now over here.
CNN leads with story that number 2 Al Qaeda leader has been killed. BBC has the same story.
Many very complementary comments on Obama, and how this may help his reelection.
Now BBC has the Wisconsin story. “Governor Scott Walker has survived the Recall Election…”Repub’s have been able to hold on to the Governor’s seat.”
CNN still on Al Qaeda.
CNN now on the Canadian cannibal.
CNN now on to the Syrian Conflict.
CNN now talking monsoons in Indian and International Weather.
CNN now has comments on some Libya’s Spy Chief on trial, and announce that when they return from the commercial break, “that voters in Wisconsin were able to keep their controversial Governor.”
It is 11 minutes after the hour and the Wisconsin story still not yet been covered at CNN.
Back from the break, CNN continues with Libya’s Spy Chief as Nick Robertson reports.
Now CNN talks the Normandy Landing of June 6, 1944.
Still waiting for Wisconsin.
CNN at 15 minutes after the hour, now runs a story that a US General in Korea has been replaced for speaking out of turn.
CNN at 17 minutes after the hour finally run’s Wisconsin:
“Possible Implications for the US Presdidential Race, Scott Walker survives a vote. Could boost Repub eggorts to make Wisconsin a battleground Statw in the Presidential Election. Voter turnout was high.”
Host: “Did this recall election have national implications?
Guest: “This is a significant defeat for the Dem’s, but Wisconsin traditionally votes Democrat so Dem’s still feel pretty good about that for the presidential Election, but this has emboldened Republicans.
Host: Can we extrapolate that this will embolden Conservatives”
Guest: “Yes. Walker’s problem was that he was polarizing, he overreached, it is extraordinary that he pulled out this victory in the end.
Host: “Dem’s can say they were outspent can’t they.
Guest: “Yes, they were outspent 7 to 1, the Repub’s money advantage defeated the Dem’s lack of money. The DNC did not compete as hard as the RNC. There will be criticism of why the Dem’s didn’t take this election more seriously.”
Host: “Thank you.”
CNN: “Now on to the Queen’s Jubilee.”
Amazing. Never once did they even mention how much Walker won by. I still do not know. I have no idea of the size of his victory. I have an inkling that Scott Walker kicked ass and that this is huge, but that is certainly not the opinion I get from watching CNN.
Bwahhahaha! “Walker’s problem????” A 10-point landslide victory is a “problem” for Gov. Walker?? I just frickin’ LOVE this!
Inigo Montoya weighs in:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2y8Sx4B2Sk
Dewey defeats Truman. Narrowly.
Actually, Pickett’s Charge was a close-run thing, but I take your meaning.
CNN currently (0300 PST) has the Walker story (he “successfully overcame a recall vote”, and “stripped collective bargaining rights from most public unions”) as a sidebar to a story of a pastor who has suffered for his pro-same-sex marriage stance, but he “remains resolute in his beliefs”.
So we’re moving into phase 2 of the liberal slant: ‘Move along, now. Nothing to see here.’
Pickett’s Charge was close only if you consider a spilled glass of water a flood. Behind the hundred or so that made it into the Union line there was no support. The right and the left were already ebbing, the center had stopped and shortly began to fall back. They were magnificent, but their mass was spent before they reached the Union line. I stand with Longstreet, they stood no chance.
You have to wonder what CNN’s Nov 2012 election coverage will be like when Obama loses early in the evening.
Ted Turner’s CNN sign off in the event of nuclear war video comes to mind.
Compare Bryan’s pictures above with the following images from headlines after Obama’s immaculation in 2008 (which was closer than Walker’s margin):

NPR, SFGate, and Seattlest are prime examples.
“A small band of cavalry ‘narrowly’ escapes anihilation at the Little Bighorn..
Oh, wait….
I think the final margin was about 9%. In a presidential level election anything over 5% is generally considered a decisive blowout.
At least they gave Walker credit for winning. I was expecting to headline something like Barrett narrowly defeated by lying, cheating Republican thugs led by Walker.
America’s future narrowly begins in Wisconsin.
This is just an example of why CNN’s viewership is way down. No one can believe the BS that comes out of it.
Part of the reason for this narrowly business is the exit polls were screwed up. They were projecting a very narrow Walker win, but when the real returns came in it turned out to be a blowout level win. Fox was fooled for awhile too, so it was not just CNN bias. These exit polls have been wrong for lot of different elections, going all the way back to Gore vs Bush. It is about time the networks started trusting them less than they do, or figuring out why they always seem to be screwed up, and the screwups always seem to overestimate dem votes.
Actually when I was looking at CNN they were playing it reasonably fair for once. Of course MSNBC was still hopelessly biased.
“Unexpectedly”
“Narrowly”
“Stimulus”
…. so many words that the left media uses without any concept of their meaning…
This could be a parlor game.
