CNS News reports:
The Archdiocese of New York, headed by Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., headed by Cardinal Donald Wuerl, the University of Notre Dame, and 40 other Catholic dioceses and organizations around the country announced on Monday that they are suing the Obama administration for violating their freedom of religion, which is guaranteed by the First Amendment to the Constitution.
The dioceses and organizations, in different combinations, are filing 12 different lawsuits filed in federal courts around the country.
The Archdiocese of Washington, D.C. has established a special website–preservereligiousfreedom.org–to explain its lawsuit and present news and developments concerning it.
Father Dolan has a brief statement on the lawsuit, at NRO. Franciscan University, the school that dropped its student health plan last week due directly to the mandate, is also suing.
I’m Protestant, but I support the Catholics’ lawsuits against the ObamaCare abortifacient wholeheartedly and without reservation. That mandate is one of many Obama administration overreaches that cannot be allowed to stand. In fact, the mandate stems from ObamaCare, which also cannot be allowed to stand.

The Black churches are filled with doubt about The Won they supported in 2012, and now the Catholics have filed a lawsuit. Meanwhile the media continues their meme that Obama, the abortion and gay marriage champion, is mainstream and moderate… The cognitive dissonance in the Washington Post must be deafening. But wait, there were Mormon militias 150 years ago!!!! Eleventy!11!
Good for the Catholics, party of Pelosi and Kennedy, perhaps they are willing to defend the Faith after all. No matter what your religion, the Obama government wants it to be supplanted with faith in government beneficence. Americans of all faiths must fight this. We are all Catholics now.
Allegiance to your cult has your thinking off-track. I can appreciate how sexual repression and the possible abuse you received from a nice priest has you confused, but you should spend time fixing your own mental issues before speaking for anyone else. Trust women enough to decide for themselves – that is not your job.
Troll, not worth regarding.
Sorry, BeaM, I have to answer this one because too many people take it seriously. This is not about women. Repeat: THIS IS NOT ABOUT WOMEN! This is about the fact that we believe it is a mortal sin not only to use contraception but also to assist someone in procuring contraception. Assisting in the procurement also extends to referring patients elsewhere- we are forbidden to provide contraceptives, encourage their use, or tell people where to go to get contraceptives when we won’t fill the proscription.
Religous freedom means people (especially women) are free to exercize their religion the way they choose. When you remove a choice (like Notre Dame is doing), you limit that freedom. If you keep a choice available (like Obama and 98% of women wish), you increase that freedom. Why not let the women choose for themselves? Give women the freedom to choose.
This is simple and I am amazed people let their feelings for the black man in THEIR White House affect their thinking. 98% of women use contraception for BC and many, many other health reasons. Your cult is making you do bad things to those you wish to help. Let women decide for themselves.
They are still free to buy contraception on their own dime, with money they earned. How is that limiting choice? If I refuse to give you my money simply because you want to buy things you need, does that mean I am limiting your ability to get the things you need? NO. You can still buy the things you need with your own money.
Stop trying to pick the pockets of religious organizations.
The next time you use that “black man in the White House” nonsense you’re banned. If you’re incapable of having a rational argument without A) telling people what they’re supposed to believe regarding their own faith and B) calling them racists without any cause whatsoever, then you have no place here.
Consider this your final warning.
“Religous freedom means people (especially women) are free to exercize their religion the way they choose.”
Yes. And forcing me to pay for you to kill your baby means you are taking that freedom away from me.
