The White House said yesterday that it had secured nearly 300,000 summer jobs for youths through its Summer Jobs+ program.
Commitments from 95 companies and non-profits, three cities, two federal agencies and the White House comprise 110,000 new positions for “low-income and disconnected youth” out of that total.
“The Summer Jobs+ Bank and the growing list of organizations stepping up to answer the President’s challenge are important to maintaining our commitment to the next generation of the American workforce,” said Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis. “There’s no replacement for the dignity that comes with earning your first paycheck, and whether young people are looking for a job at the retail store around the corner-or at a national park states away-they now have one place to start their search.”
Out of the 300,000 positions in the Summer Jobs+ initiative, though, only 90,000 are paid jobs and the rest are mentorships, internships and other training opportunities.
Philadelphia, Chicago and San Francisco signed up as Summer Jobs+ Cities to partner with the administration on the program. Mayor Michael A. Nutter is asking Philadelphians to sign on as donors to help reach the summer jobs goal.
The White House also launched the Summer Jobs+ Bank online search tool. “In January, we called on the private and public sectors to help us address record unemployment among America’s youth,” President Obama said yesterday. “Today, we are proud to announce that cities, federal agencies, non-profits, and companies from across the country have come together to provide hundreds of thousands of summer jobs and employment opportunities for our young people.”
He’s billing it as the latest “We Can’t Wait” initiative.

Forward!
Apparently it is “Forward… but with no paycheck” (which then causes a paraphrases saying from the Soviet Union to come to mind. “They act like they pay me so I act like I work”).
Less than one third of the jobs are paid? Smart strategy: train ‘em young to work for free, because if Obama has his way, that IS their future.
Speaking of smart strategies, Summer Jobs+ Bank sounds like yet another online tool designed to collect names and contact info for the upcoming generation of donors, er, voters.
How to get America moving again
1) Real job creation occurs in small business. Anyone going into small business (per SCORE & SBA) alert any prospective new business owner they’ll be one of the 85% going out of business the first year. The single biggest items behind this ominous warning are the IRS and NLRB, respectively.
2) Energy. Energy costs for any small business have increased on average, since 2008 7.9%. With renewable energy requirements now coming online this jumps to 32%,i.e., residential=31.9%, industrial=30.7% and commercial=27.4%.
3) Manufacturing. In 2001 there were a sum total of 398,647 manufacturing facilities in the USA. By 2010, this number was reduced to a mere 342,647, a loss of 56,240 manufacturing facilities in he USA alone…or better yet 14 manufacuring facilities closing their doors forever per day(for the 11 year period).
Now add to this, recent coal fired electricity producing plants 45 closures with an additional 160 planned closures for 2012 (by the EPA) and 6 coal mine closures with some additional 16 to follow.
Boondogles with 26 “green energy” fiascos, in one years time (March 2010 to March 2011), wasting approximately $1.1 trillion additional taxpayer dollars on corrupt, pandering to political bundlers and favored politicos.
Why, just look at historical data for jobs: Manufacturing in 1979=19.4 million, in 2010=dropping to 11.5 million. Service employees in 1979=64.9 million and in 2010=112.1 million. High school and college graduates going into Americas service sector…that’s what these numbers tell us. Government is America’s biggest employer.
Conclusion: without a massive overhaul in We The Elite People of culture of corruption in Washington DC and accompanying: 1) trashing the IRS and its neanderthal Tax Code (Flat Tax), 2) Rational, cheap energy for Residential, industrial and commercial customers, and finally 3) gutting the EPA, DOE and other useless Washington agencies allowing manufacturing to flourish, return to American shores. America is Kaput. God Bless America. Don’t even talk about Religion and Education…the scenario is even worse.Amen. Yes, Keynes is proven wrong once again…Gold Standard is the only salvation for America to balance its finances. Back to basics.
For the 17 weeks I spend working each year to cover my federal taxes, would that time be considered a job or a federal mentorship?
And more importantly, since I effectively have no net income during those 17 weeks, am I considered employed or unemployed by the BLS?
