The NAALCP has ousted Rep. Allen West from a speaking engagement, because he spoke.
Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) was supposed to be the keynote speaker at a fundraiser for his district chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) this past Saturday. But days before the event, the group canceled the gathering and asked West not to come back when they rescheduled. Why?
“There’s a certain statement he made about Communists,” Jerry Gore, president of the Martin County NAACP, told Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers. “That statement alone … we do not represent that type of atmosphere.”
Right. Flash back to 2000. Texas Gov. George W. Bush was running for president. The NAALCP — the “L” standing for Lying — ran a nasty ad that accused Bush of complicity in the brutal murder of James Byrd, because Bush opposed hate crimes legislation. Byrd’s murderers had already been caught by the time the ad ran. Bush supported the death penalty for them (and one received that penalty in 2011). But because Bush opposed an unrelated law that would not have saved Byrd or made Byrd’s killer any more dead than he ended up, it was just like murder. Or something. The NAACP dressed its despicable ad up by putting the murder complicity charge in the mouth of Byrd’s daughter.
Regarding West’s comments about a number of Democrats in Congress being closet communists, that’s not as out there as the HuffPosters et al are making it out. We did have at least one communist in the Obama administration, for one thing — Van Jones. Jones had to depart the White House, but is still a member of the left’s coalition in good standing despite being a communist and 9-11 Truther with a racist and revolutionary bent. Rep. West was talking specifically about the Congressional Progressive Caucus, though. That group is closely aligned with the Democratic Socialists of America. DSA is hard left full bore socialist. The Communist Party USA, which is what it says it is, describes the Congressional Progressive Caucus with an illuminating word during a windy post on ObamaCare:
Did we forget the fact that many of the same unions, hundreds of locals, and the rank and file supported single payer? We also turned away from our allies in Congress, the Progressive Caucus, and John Conyers.
“Allies.” Defined as “people, groups, or nations that have joined in an association for mutual benefit or to achieve some common purpose, whether or not explicit agreement has been worked out between them.”
We’re not talking short term “allies” as in “axis vs. allies” here, but allies in terms of having a long term relationship to work toward the same goals.
