CNN gave actor Jay Thomas a platform today to discuss the Obama connection to the late Professor Derrick Bell. Thomas made the very least of the opportunity, accusing Breitbart editor in chief Joel Pollak of being motivated by fear of black people.
Joel Pollak acquits himself well, noting the indisputable fact that Barack Obama has consistently thrown in his lot with radicals throughout his life, and the mainstream media has just as consistently covered those associations up. Amy Holmes comes in at the end to add that we should have seen the Obama tapes in 2008. Listen to Soledad O’Brien try her best to be nothing but an annoying distraction. That seems to be the entire media’s job — distract.
Not that this should matter, but in the interests of truth, Joel Pollak’s wife is black.

Her accent is a bit hard to place, sounding very American with pepperings of foreign influence. Regardless, her mother’s appointment by Mandela’s ANC in the early days of the post-Apartheid RSA acquits her well and, by extension, her husband. Yes, the gauntlet is thrown right back in the face of the obnoxious blowhard Thomas. That “dud” of a video is sure causing lots of self-inflicted damage in some quarters.

For several years in my first unit, my NBC (Nuclear Biological Chemical) NCO was a South African, and three others in my battalion actually hailed from the continent of Africa, as well. Her accent did not sound terribly out of the ordinary for her region. In fact, she sounded a great deal like my old NBC NCO (who was a white South African, but I guess they don’t exist).
But..asking “Why are you afraid of blacks?” is so much EASIER than actually debating.
It’s no different than asking the classic loaded question – “Have you stopped beating your wife yet?”

I did some digging around on Bing (NOT Google; they are malware!) and found, under her maiden name Bertelsmann that she was on the boards of several Jewish student organizations including the campus Chabad at Harvard. As the latter is prominent in the orthodox world that would mean that her Jewish credentials are pretty strong. As such, the assertion that she is “black” is suspect. Frankly, that has no bearing on her family being strongly trusted by the ANC and by former President Mandela. Clearly the “hate blacks” accusation fails against her. And I cannot imagine that such prominent associations in her family’s history escaped Joel; he is from South Africa himself and is certainly aware of Mrs. Bertelsmann’s appointment.
I wouldn’t say that her credentials as “Black” were suspect. If you were to base it merely on a physical assessment, I would say that she was half-and-half, half Black and half Dutch. She didn’t look the least bit Jewish to me, but upon first glance I would immediately say that she was a caucasian-African mix. No matter how you slice that cake, she’s exactly the kind of person that our opponents want to pretend do not exist, since “our kind” wouldn’t marry “the likes of her.”
Well, frankly, anybody, regardless of their race, who has ever had or worked in a retail business in or near any big city is very rationally afraid of Blacks. One of the great days of my life was the day in 1974 in Seattle when I got rid of the two S&W .38 Chiefs that had been absolutely essential and my and my wife’s constant companions in downtown Atlanta and bought a Ruger M-77 30.06 in case I ran into a bear while camping along the AlCan. It was almost 20 years before I owned another handgun when my wife bought me a Walther PPK/S for Christmas, but really only as a collector’s item, not a necessity for personal defense.
The PPK/S, an American version of the archtypal James Bond weapon, stayed in a display case until the last couple of years. Recent events have caused me to take it to the range – a lot – and get myself a really nice Galco “Miami Vice” shoulder holster for it and a couple of extra magazines – and have a couple of jackets fitted to wear over it. Just in case. I’m not really a handgun guy except as temporary defense to get back to the long gun you should have never separated yourself from, but my Saiga and Mossberg 12 guages and my Mini 14 are a little conspicuous and scary for social situations. Invest in precious metals: brass and lead.

Joel was Alan Dershowitz’ student-assistant at Harvard Law School. Durng the 2010 Congressional campaign, Dershowitz just raved about Joel and his intelligence. He also raved about Joel’s wife, whom he said might be even more brilliant. Interesting, given that Dershowitz is a liberal, and Joel is a conservative.
Joel was born in South Africa, and like so many South African Jews is of Lithuanian ancestry. His ancestral town in Lithuania was not too far from mine.
